How can you make a difference?

The objective of the post is to provide households with sustainable food security and livelihoods that enable them to produce, access and afford nutritious food. In addition, these interventions will help communities produce sufficient food to sell their surplus, and to add value and connect with higher value markets to boost household income and savings. This in turn will further improve their access to education, health, and WASH services.

 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Support The technical coordination - Focal point for the Joint Resilience Programme, currently KFW funded and implemented jointly by UNICEF, and WFP.
  2. Serve as the link between technical teams and Resilience Unit to follow up on recommendations from technical specialists on implementation progress, challenges, best practices, and identification of new opportunities are shared and discussed.
  3. Support quality of resilience and climate change programming through collection of evidence and data to organize them to highlight resilience challenges, best practices, and identification of new opportunities. Work with sections on implementation of integrated solutions throughout the programme cycle.
  4. Provide support to the Resilience Coordinator and Climate specialist to maintain broader partnerships on climate change and resilience and ensure coordination of UNICEF’s work across sectors with relevant partners.
  5. Support knowledge management, monitoring, evaluation, and lessons learnt arising from implementation of resilience approaches through, with a focus on the upcoming Impact Evaluation and end of phase I and II evaluation.
  6. Support compilation and review of donor reports as outlined in the donor agreement. Support internal follow up on technical feedback and specific request from donor.
  7. Optimum use of Resilience and climate change Programme Funds by monitoring section’s expenditure patterns are within the approved budgets.
  8. Provide support to sections on climate change and resilience Programme planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation and follow up to ensure complementary programming and transitions is followed up.
  9. Support organizing and Participate in technical working groups, steering committee and other joint Programme meetings, review meetings and evaluation exercises in consultation with, Chief Field Operations, Programme Managers, other UN agencies and government partners.
  10. Carry out other related duties as required by the Resilience Specialist in support of the Programme.
  11. Work with different UNICEF sections to ensure climate-sensitive and resilience-focused approaches across the Programme cycle and Coordinate with partners, and withing UNICEF sections.
  12. Support sector Climate change and resilient focal points in technical relationships with relevant ministries and government counterparts in order to support national priorities and promote UNICEF's portfolio of action on climate change.

Experiences and Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor or equivalent (First Level University Degree) in Social Science, International Relations, Community Development and any other related fields.
  • Work Experience: At least 2 years of relevant professional work experience.
    Experience in coordination, grants and project management, reporting.
    Strong communication skills, including an ability to build rapport with individuals and groups and maintain an effective network of individuals across organizational departments, agencies, and governments.
  • Skills: network building, coordination, grants management, project management, reporting, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.

Desirables:

  • Language: Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language
  • Experience working with a KFW grant is an asset
  • Experience in proposal development is an asset
  • Understanding of the socio-political context of Somalia would be an advantage
  • Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
