Job Description

The Community Nutrition Officer (CNO) is responsible for planning, and monitoring community nutrition activities, with a particular focus on capacity building of SRCS Volunteers and CHWs to lead on the daily implementation of awareness sessions mainly on breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and prevention of malnutrition, together with group sessions for caregivers of children under 2 years while ensuring proper coordination and collaboration with local authorities, other key partners, beneficiaries to ensure the smooth implementation of the program activities of the SRCS projects. The CNO will also be the focal point for running nutrition-sensitive and wash activities at the field level.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

·         The Community Nutrition Officer (CNO) will be responsible of assessing regularly IYCF, nutrition and care practices amongst the targeted communities in the areas of interventions.

·         Provide technical support and guidance to IYCF Nurses, SRCS volunteers, and CHWs on nutrition education, IYCF, and wash activities.

·          Collaborated closely with the Nutrition manager to provide updates on the program, discuss emerging challenges, and collaborate on the design of new programs or changes to existing programs.

·         Conduct and engage in nutrition and health education to ensure the promotion of positive health-seeking behavior, including maternal and child health

• Supervise Community Mobilisers (CMs) in provision of health, nutrition awareness to pregnant women and caregivers of children under five years, including training on mid-upper-arm circumference (MUAC) measurement, following the family MUAC approach.
• Identify, train, and support the IYCF Nurses to provide group sessions and manage the rest of the tasks.
• Manage, support, guide, and develop the capacity of the SRCS Volunteers and CHWs in assessing the challenges of the caregivers, progress of their work, follow up on their reporting, timely work management for nutrition education.
• Support in conducting assessments and surveys throughout the project (rapid assessments, pre/posttests, baseline/endline, vulnerability assessments, MAMI, etc.) as needed.
• Works with Volunteers & CHVs at the community level to plan, coordinate and organize for community mobilization activities and ensure the Integration of community activities with nutrition and wash interventions.
• Leading on the awareness raising and nutrition promotion activities at HH and community levels.
• Conduct regular follow-up field visits to support and coordinate program activities implementation at the targeted areas.
• Collecting, analyzing, and reporting on nutrition data activities to track program progress and identify areas for improvement. 
• Preparing regular reports on program activities and submitting them to relevant stakeholders. 
• Collaborating with local authorities, community leaders, and other partners to ensure effective program implementation. 

Experiences and Qualifications

Education

·         Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Public Health, and Nutrition

Experience:

·         Minimum 3 years relevant experience in community nutrition with significant experience in nutrition sensitive & IYCF programs

·         Technical Skills:

·         Strong knowledge of nutrition principles, protocols, and guidelines, as well as experience with data collection, analysis, and reporting. 

Interpersonal Skills:

·         Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills to effectively work with diverse groups of people. 

·         Language:

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Kinyarwanda, with the ability to engage effectively with community members, partners, and local authorities
