Job Description

Position title       :            TSFP/MCHN/BSFP Nurse (22)

Reporting to       :            Nutrition Supervisor

Location               :            Baidoa,Burhakaba,Berdale and Qasaxdere

 

Job summary:

The employee is expected to provide a high standard of promoting optimum health and preventive health care, thereby contributing to a safe, efficient and effective service to patients. The employee will also provide assistance to the doctors and the other medical care team where appropriate, recognising that the effective management of hospital depends on effective communication and participation of all members of the team.

 

Responsibilities:

Promotes the Health and Nutrition of patients

  • Conducts courses and seminars designed to teach patients and communities about nutrition, hygiene, family planning etc.
  • Provides medical care and advice to patients/ beneficiaries and other staff as required. Refers more serious cases to the appropriate medical facility or to a visiting medical practitioner.
  • Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity
  • Participate in the writing of timely and accurate monthly reports in collaboration with the supervisor.

       Implementing Nutrition activities.

  • Check anthropometric measures, MUAC, and oedema and cases to appropriate structure.
  • Carry out follow up in the OTP/SFP/SCs where possible, while undertaking periodical.
  • Provide good standards in the delivery of preventive and nutrition promoting services.
  • Record properly all screening results and write daily, weekly, monthly reports.

 

     Consultation of malnutrition cases

  • Detect of acute malnutrition in the community and provision of treatment for those without medical complications.
  • Review the OTP/TSFP cards and progress of individual children and the operations in allocated centre and highlight any concerns to the Nutrition Supervisor.
  • Explain purpose of admission and fill out the OTP/TSFP ration cards.

    Helps Ensure Efficient Management of the Nutrition centre

  • Maintains an accurate record of all drugs / RUST, RUSF disbursed.
  • Maintains individual files or cards regarding each patient assisted. Keeps accurate records of all treatments, RUTF/RUSF, weighing etc.
  • Prepare monthly Nutrition report.

     Conducting Patient and community mobilization

  • Ensure all mother/ care giver are aware the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the Initial 6 months.
  • Discourage and educate mothers on the dangers of bottle feeding by exchanging bottles to cups and spoons.
  • Participate and Disseminate public health and nutrition education messages to improve knowledge, attitude and practice.

 Data protection.

  • At all times ensures that personal data of donors, sponsors, SOS CV beneficiaries and their families as well as SOS co-workers is handled confidentially and in accordance with prevailing SOS-Kinderdorf International data protection laws

Experiences and Qualifications

Job competencies:

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nurse, PH or related field
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive professional experience in Managements of Immunization, or had work with Health Partner for MCH Projects
  • Excellent command in Somali and English
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ward Management Skills
  • Basic Knowledge and experience Nutrition
  • Proactive, result oriented, independent, able to identify and carry out duties with minimum supervision
