About the Project:

The Construction of Community Wells Project, implemented by Muslim Hands, aims to improve sustainable access to safe and reliable water for vulnerable and underserved communities in Jowhar District, Middle Shabelle Region, Somalia. The project will support communities that face limited access to safe water sources by constructing community wells in strategically identified locations based on assessed needs and community priorities.

The Construction of Community Wells Project is designed to complement existing WASH initiatives by improving access to safe, reliable, and sustainable water for vulnerable and underserved communities in Jowhar, Middle Shabelle Region, Somalia. The project will provide sustainable groundwater access through the construction of community wells, reducing communities’ reliance on costly and temporary solutions such as water trucking, particularly during periods of drought and water scarcity. The project will prioritize community engagement, capacity building, local ownership, and effective operation and maintenance (O&M) to ensure the long-term functionality and sustainability of the water facilities. By addressing critical water-access challenges, the project will contribute to improved public health, reduced risks associated with unsafe water, increased community resilience, and long-term water security and sustainable WASH outcomes in Jowhar.
