Role Overview
Talk to Loop receives hundreds of feedback from people and communities in crises daily, and to keep our promise to the community to moderate their feedback within 48 hours, we are looking to hire several Moderators to join our team in Mogadishu and Hargeisa.
Position Overview
The Talk to Loop Moderator is a key role based at the country level within the organisation's local and global structure. The moderators are entrusted with the responsibility of reviewing, tagging, and managing feedback submitted to the Talk to Loop platform. With a deep understanding of the local aid landscape and linguistic proficiency, the Moderator plays a pivotal role in maintaining community standards,
identifying sensitive feedback, and facilitating appropriate responses in a timely way. Moderators respond to the Somalia Country Lead and collaborate closely with the Sensitive Feedback Lead, User Experience and Quality Assurance Lead as well as the global team and moderators from other countries. The Moderator has a key role to ensure the effective functioning and integration of Talk to Loop within their country of
operation and act as an expert linguist and translator of feedback and cultural issues.
Expected Tasks
● Review and tag all feedback submitted to the Talk to Loop platform, ensuring adherence to community guidelines.
● Determine the suitability of feedback for publication on the open platform or referral to the Talk to Loop Sensitive Feedback Lead for sensitive issues.
● Translate feedback into English and back (to local language) when necessary, ensuring accurate and culturally relevant communication across languages.
● Provide support to the Loop local Sensitive Feedback moderator in managing sensitive reports.
● Notify and work with relevant organisations and stakeholders about feedback on Loop that is pertinent to their work, fostering engagement, replies and collaboration.
● Represent Talk to Loop within the country, advocating for the platform and building relationships with stakeholders and communities.
● Support in the management of in-country communications and social media activities to promote Talk to Loop's rollout and mainstreaming.
● Contribute to the improvement of Moderator Protocols based on experience and insights.
● Contribute to the development of strategies to engage marginalised populations safely and effectively, advocating for inclusive tech solutions and trust-building measures.
● Liaise with key actors, document and share learning internally and externally to enhance Talk to Loop's impact and effectiveness.
Moderation Duties
● Approve or reject feedback and replies based on Moderator Protocols and community guidelines.
● Add relevant tags to feedback and provide insights for protocol enhancements.
● Translate feedback into English and back ( to local language)
● Forward sensitive feedback to the Talk to Loop Sensitive Feedback Lead following established protocols.
● Manage feedback and profile pages for organisations.
● Attend coordination meetings and deliver presentations and training on Talk to Loop to stakeholders.
Necessary Skills and Experience
● Fluency in Maxatiri (Spoken and written) and fluency in at least one of the other local languages (Barawani, Mushunguli/Kizigua, Tuni, Jiido, Maay, Banjuni etc).
● Strong written and spoken English.
● Strong network and understanding of the local humanitarian and development context.
● Articulate communication skills adaptable to diverse audiences.
● Proactive problem-solving and initiative-taking abilities.
● Proficiency in using digital tools such as smartphones, computers, and communication platforms.
● Experience in community engagement, communication with stakeholders,
moderation, monitoring and evaluation, protection or related roles is preferred.
