DESCRIPTION: Expression of Interest – Tools for Refrigerator Repairing
World Vision is a relief, development, and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families, and communities. We work with community members, supporting them to overcome poverty and injustice. Our aim is to lift poor and marginalized households out of the vicious cycle of dependence by addressing the underlying causes of vulnerability to environmental and socio-economic shocks.
Background:
The World Vision Somaliland Livelihood Sector has supported five youth members in Berbera for a TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) program focused on refrigerator and air conditioning maintenance and repair skills. These young individuals will be completing vocational training that combined practical, hands‑on instruction with foundational knowledge in refrigeration cycles, electrical systems, safety protocols, and customer service essentials.
Upon graduation, World Vision will provide each trainee with a start-up toolkit containing the essential tools and equipment required to begin working immediately. These toolkits will typically include items such as refrigerant recovery machines, basic electrical hand tools, servicing accessories, and diagnostic instruments. The purpose of supplying these kits is to ensure the graduates can launch their businesses or pursue employment without delay, enabling them to generate income from their newly acquired skills.
The start-up kits serve as more than just equipment—they represent a bridge to sustainable livelihoods. By equipping each graduate with the necessary tools, World Vision empowers them to either embark on self‑employment or join local service providers, thus contributing to economic resilience in their communities. This initiative reflects World Vision’s broader mission of transforming vocational training into viable income-generating pathways**.** Through combining practical education, business support, and start-up asset provision, the program enhances graduates’ potential to become self-reliant, serve their communities, and break cycles of poverty
