Somaliland National Youth Organization (SONYO) came into being in June, 2003 as non-governmental, non-political and non-profit entity which is generally engaged in the development and reconstruction of Somaliland. It was primarily intended to operate as a fully-fledged national umbrella organization for youth organizations in Somaliland and is committed to the advocacy, development, capacity building, mobilization, and coordination of Somaliland youth and the community as a whole Since its inception, SONYO proved to be very viable nationwide youth umbrella and its membership grew to 54 member organizations from youth led NGOs, associations, students unions and higher education institutions in Somaliland
