GREDO is an indigenous local NGO. Non-profit non-partial, non- political and voluntary organization based in Baidoa. To reach the most affected grass-root communities in Bay and Bakool regions, lower Shebelle, Gedo and Galmudug state effectively and efficiently, the necessity of local partnership in relief program appeared. Responding to the partnership need, a group of Somali intellectuals and well-wishers initiated in December 1992 a local non-governmental organization called Gargaar Relief and Development Organization (GREDO) the organization has implemented during these period different projects including relief and emergency programs and later improved into rehabilitation and developmental programs
Position Overview:
The Social Capital and SBC Lead will play a critical role in the technical implementation of the graduation approach within the Somalia Resilience Food Security Activity (RFSA), focusing on building social capital and promoting behavior change to enhance the resilience and livelihoods of vulnerable populations. This position involves representing GREDO in workshops and advocating for the integration of social capital and social and behavior change (SBC) strategies, ensuring inclusivity for gender, youth, disability, and marginalized groups. The lead will collaborate closely with consortium partners like AVSI, Shaqadoon, and Save the Children, ensuring effective communication of program objectives while contributing to strategic planning, capacity building, and providing technical guidance. The role will include close collaboration with Save the Children’s Graduation Approach Advisor to integrate key considerations into the project’s design and implementation. Ultimately, the lead will focus on strengthening technical implementation and improving resilience outcomes for vulnerable communities, particularly through cohort-based programming.
1. Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership in Graduation Approach:
· Provide technical support to the graduation approach, focusing on coaching and mentoring curriculum development and community consultations to ensure that the graduation model is tailored to the local context.
· Collaborate with the Save the Children Graduation Approach Advisor, ensuring that gender, youth, and social inclusion are integrated into every phase of the graduation approach, particularly for marginalized groups such as persons with disabilities and marginalized clans.
· Work with consortium members (AVSI, Shaqadoon, Save the Children) to ground truth the coaching and mentoring curriculum and revise it based on the needs identified through community feedback and consultations.
· Support the recruitment and training of coaches to provide effective and ongoing support to participants, helping them achieve their resilience goals.
VSLA and Livelihoods Support:
· Support VSLA groups in Afgoye and other targeted areas, ensuring proper formation, management, and capacity building to strengthen their financial security and social capital.
· Facilitate the implementation of livelihoods training, including basic entrepreneurship and market-driven livelihoods training to enhance participants’ skills and ability to pursue sustainable livelihoods.
· Oversee the entrepreneurship skills development and business planning training, ensuring that participants are equipped to manage businesses or use their assets effectively for economic security.
Behavior Change and Social Capital Building:
· Lead the development and implementation of social and behavior change (SBC) strategies that foster resilience and positive behaviors in participants, promoting key principles like savings, investment, and sustainable livelihoods.
· Use SBC methods to encourage positive community engagement, trust-building, and collaboration among VSLA groups, ensuring that participants can successfully pursue their pathways to graduation and economic self-sufficiency.
· Address intersectional challenges related to gender, youth, and disability in the design and delivery of SBC interventions, ensuring inclusivity in all project activities.
Linkages and Referral Systems:
· Facilitate linkages and referrals to complementary services in health, nutrition, WASH, GBV, and other relevant sectors to provide comprehensive support for project participants.
· Work with other partners and stakeholders to strengthen the integration of resilience programming across multiple sectors, ensuring that vulnerable households can access holistic support services.
Ongoing Coaching and Mentoring:
· Ensure that coaching and mentoring sessions are sustained throughout the graduation cycle, providing critical support to ultra-poor households to help them build resilience, increase their confidence, and stay committed to their livelihood goals.
· Develop coaching methodologies that address social, emotional, and psychological aspects of behavior change, helping participants overcome barriers to achieving sustainable livelihoods and improved living conditions.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL):
· Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of SBC and social capital-building activities, tracking the impact of behavior change and the effectiveness of training interventions in achieving graduation targets.
· Collect and analyze feedback from beneficiaries to continually adapt and improve the coaching curriculum and behavior change strategies, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of participants.
