Job Title: Senior Programme Associate (VAM – Markets & Databases),

Contract Type/Grade: G7

Duty Station: Mogadishu, Somalia

Contract Duration: 1 year (Initial)

Date of Issue: 23rd  January 2024 | Closing Date: 5th February 2024

What will you do?

  • Plan and lead market assessments, value chain analysis, and surveys for WFP Somalia.
  • Support the development of food and nutrition security reports for effective decision-making.
  • Develop systems and tools for monitoring markets and food assistance needs.

 

  • Provide technical advice on Minimum Expenditure and Food Basket composition and costing.
  • Guide data gathering and monitoring systems with a focus on quality standards.

 

  • Contribute to timely reports on food security and vulnerability analysis.

 

  • Participate in coordination forums to represent WFP views and exchange information.

 

  • Support partners focusing on market initiatives, food security, and nutrition.

 

  • Act as a referral point and assist staff, especially in field offices, with analysis and queries
  • Respond to emergency food assistance needs and perform other required duties.

Experiences and Qualifications

Do you meet the minimum requirements?

  • University degree in Economics, Food Security, Statistics, Agri-business, Agriculture, Geography, Data Science, Public Health/Nutrition, Environmental Science, Development studies or other related field, OR First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses is required.
  • At least 7 experiences in food security and market analysis by participating in multiple assessments, including the design, data collection analysis and reporting.
  • Experience in handling both qualitative and quantitative data (e.g., collecting, cleaning, visualizing, interpreting).
  • Experience in collaborative work with national governments, other UN agencies and key stakeholders in food and nutrition security.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of a variety of quantitative and qualitative analytical tools and methods for food security, nutrition, and market analysis.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of several statistical tools and methods for food and nutrition security analysis.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and understanding of WFP vulnerability mapping systems and emergency assessment standards is an advantage.
  • Experience in emergency contexts and flexibility to travel at short notice is desirable.
  • Competencies in using statistical software such as SPSS, STATA, R, Tableau, Power BI, etc.
  • Strong ability with Office365.
  • Experience with coordination or substantial participation in an Integrated Phase Classification (IPC) analysis cycle is an added advantage.
