JOB ADVERT FOR SENIOR HEALTH AND NUTRITION OFFICER BELETHAWA/DOLOW

         BACKGROUND

Lifeline-Gedo (LLG) is a Humanitarian, Non-profit and non-governmental organization dedicated to responding to humanitarian emergences through provision of life-saving support mechanisms in partnership with national and international role players, promoting peace and stability, advocate against all kinds of violence, initiate long term and short-term development projects. LLG prioritizes identifying the most appropriate targets for their projects where the poorest communities are suffering most.

POSITION INFORMATION

Position Title: Senior Health and Nutrition officer

Duty Station: Dollow Gedo, Somalia

Organizational Unit: Programmes

Reports To: Project Coordinator

Duration: 12 months with the possibility of an extension.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Project implementation

 

•          Supervise the health and nutrition components of the PWiMT-Haaano project by providing technical oversight and ensuring quality standards are met in accordance with global standards and donor requirements.

•          Provide day-to-day technical supervision and guidance to the health and nutrition Hanaano project team and field staff.

•          Evaluate the progress and impact of programs through regular field visits and data analysis on statically reports.

•          Ensures all project activities are implemented in accordance with their approved budgets and works closely with the Project Coordinator to find ways to improve operational efficiency on an on-going basis.

•          Lead the development of weekly, monthly, and quarterly work plans and share with line project coordinator.

•          Support downward accountability in the Hanaano health and nutrition project. Promote feedback mechanism including the complaints and response mechanism and ensure the meaningful participation of the communities in programme planning, implementation and monitoring as feasible.

•          Supervise compilation of daily field reports and compile weekly reports and share with field project coordinators

•          Track progress using indicators like recovery rates, relapse rates, and coverage of nutrition services.

•          Train caregivers and community health workers on recognizing early signs of wasting.

•          Promote culturally appropriate dietary practices that support recovery and prevention.

•          Lead awareness campaigns to reduce stigma and encourage timely care-seeking.

•          Facilitate effective target population management and activity supervision through communication and coordination with the targeted village leaders

•          In conjunction with LLG field team and CRC Collect information on LLG’s humanitarian response in the area.

•          Continuously monitor the humanitarian/food security situation across LLG Hanaano program areas and provide accurate reports to your line manage.

•          Promote behavior change for improved participation through appropriate mobilization of target population

•          Identify existing project implementation gaps and address any issues with partners, donors, and stakeholders.

•          Analyze data from nutrition programs and provide inputs to be used for quality assessment and improvements in overall program quality.

•          Able to clearly understand Community based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) approach.

•          Take part assessments and surveillance interventions (nutrition surveys using ENA for SMART, coverage surveys, Baseline, TUFT, Midterm, End line and others etc.)

Representation and collaboration

•          Supervise the health and nutrition teams as per agreed roles and ensure adherence to LLG HR

•          Work closely with key LLG and wider team members in multisectoral concern as appropriate, especially to promote more nutrition friendly resilience and resilience friendly nutrition (integrated approach). Support direct reports on the same.

•          Ensure all LG and national health and nutrition standards and indicators are up-to-date and well understood by all the nutrition staff, that they are trained and mentored on these standards, as well as held accountable to them.

•          Liaise with health and nutrition experts, to ensure that specialized support is available at the field/district/activity level to increase coverage and overall efficacy of the program.

•          Assess training needs of departmental staff and community, develop a training program in order to address any gaps.

•          Strengthen the capacity of all health and nutrition team by ensuring through direct training and other opportunities including on the job training (OJT), mentoring and supportive supervision.

•          Regularly able to attend coordination meetings at national levels organized by MoH and International agencies.

 

Monitoring and Reporting

•          With the proper coordination of project coordinator ensure that the data is analyzed, reviewed, reported, and responded to on an ongoing basis. This includes CMAM performance, programme coverage, community participation, health/nutrition/IYCF knowledge and practice, quality of service delivery and other impact measurements as agreed.

•          Work with LLG MEAL team to devise and participate in health and nutrition surveys, periodic assessments, beneficiary interviews etc. as required during programme implementation.

•          Compile and submit weekly and monthly reports to the project coordinator in the required format and in timely manner.

•          Compile case/success stories and oversee collection of useful multimedia (photos and video) used in reporting. Support staff to develop strong case studies which demonstrate programme impact. Share with Project Coordinator

 

Coordination

 

·       Ensure close communication and collaboration with institutions and organizations to whom we refer children for in-patient treatment, to help ensure the best outcome for those patients.

 

OTHER

·       Other tasks may reasonably be requested by the line manager.

Experiences and Qualifications

•          Minimum relevant bachelor’s degree in medicine/public health/nursing/nutrition with significant relevant experience. Masters in any of the fields of medicine/public health/nursing/nutrition is an added advantage.

•          At least 5 years’ experience working in conflict/post conflict context, with preferred work experience in Somalia.

•          Demonstrated experience in gender analysis and women’s empowerment.

•          Demonstrated experience in program assessments, problem analysis and program design.

•          Experience with reporting, budgeting, procurement, and project management.

•          Team player, who can develop strong collaborative relations across the organization, in both the program and program support departments.

•          Strong gender and conflict analysis skills, and the ability to articulate and design programs using a right based approach.

•          Demonstrated ability to motivate and coach field staff.

•          Ability to work and live under difficult conditions.

•          Computer skills (Ms Word, Ms Excel, power point)
