Job Description

Position: Physiotherapist

Job Grade:  Band 4

Department:  Rehabilitation Center

Location: Galkayo

Reports To:  Head of physiotherapy

Direct Reports:  PT HELPER/PTA

Background:

SRCS is an independent, non-political humanitarian organisation. It was established in April 1963 and became a legal entity following Presidential Decree No. 187 in 1965. SRCS has operated continuously throughout the country’s period of civil war and political divide and is credited for its unity as one National Society. It operates through a network of nineteen branches with activities spread all across the country. 

Overall Job Purpose

The physiotherapist will help patients with physical difficulties resulting from illness, injury, disability or ageing to improve their movement. The job holder is also responsible for devising and reviewing treatment programmes using manual therapy (such as massage), therapeutic exercise and electrotherapy. As well as treating patients and promote their health and wellbeing and provide advice on how to avoid injury and self-manage long-term conditions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

  • help patients who have a range of conditions, including neurological, neuro musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and respiratory, sometimes over a period of weeks;
  •  assess, diagnose and treat their respective conditions and  physical problem/condition;
  • develop and review treatment programs that encourage exercise and movement by the use of a range of techniques;
  • involve parents and carers in the treatment, review and rehabilitation of patients;
  • educate patients and their carers about how to prevent and/or improve conditions;
  • write patient case notes and reports and collect statistics;
  • liaise with other healthcare professionals, such as occupational therapists and social workers, to exchange information about the background and progress of patients, as well as to refer patients who require other medical attention;
  • keep up to date with new techniques and technologies available for treating patients;
  • supervise physiotherapy Assistants and other physiotherapy support workers;
  • Schedule exercises and therapies for the patient
  • Document patient medical progress and treatment; record notes to update medical conditions
  • Monitor and manage clinical risk.

Reporting

  • Collect and maintain day to day data statistics and report to head of physiotherapy department.
  • By every 1st every month prepare a report with activities of the last month and all available statistics, this report will go to the head of physiotherapy department
  • Report to the head of physiotherapy any problem about equipment machines, if there is need to repair or replace.

Experiences and Qualifications

Educational Qualifications & Professional Training:

  • Diploma in physiotherapy or Health
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel)
  • Minimum Two years experience working in healthcare or physical rehabilitation setting
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Somali and English languages
