Purpose
Under the supervision of the Nutrition Delegate, the Nutritionist contributes to the overall integration, implementation
and management of the Economic Security (EcoSec)) nutrition activities in the area of responsibility (AoR), Kismayo.
The incumbent implements the supplementation programme targeting Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) for
children under the age of five years and Pregnant and Lactating Women, including preventive activities at community
level (Family MUAC-MIYCN). The Nutritionist also analyses the nutrition and food security situation, undertakes and
integrates nutrition in needs assessments and planned EcoSec interventions, building the capacities on nutritionsensitive approaches of the concerned staff.
This is a national/resident position based in Kismayo, Somalia.
Accountabilities & functional responsibilities
• Contributes to Economic Security assessments in planning, designing the methodology, implementation, and
results analysis to ensure the nutrition component is well assessed
• Ensures implementation of the TSFP at the supported mobile and static Somali Red Crescent Society
(SRCS) clinics with OTP in line with the IMAM guidelines and ICRC’s internal standards and procedures
adopted together with Health department
• Ensures adequate technical support, monitoring and evaluation of the SRCS staffs during the implementation
of the MAM programme
• Ensures adequate stock of nutritional products at the TSFP clinics within the AoR for the treatment of MAM
• Ensures timely and quality reporting of activities and statistical data (weekly, monthly and quarterly) in line
with the institutional and internally adopted procedures and formats
• Contributes to monitoring of the food security and nutrition situation within the region, highlighting and
reporting on any rising food insecurity trends and other aggravating factors to inform decision making, and
through integrated action with other departments
• Organises and leads Nutrition Surveys with SMART methodology in target communities with the support of
Nutrition Delegate
• Ensures optimal integration of standard nutrition and food consumption tools and indicators, including, yet
not limited to identification of baseline data and SMART indicators, and assessing approach, making sure
that the nutrition criteria are being properly followed
• Ensures the systematic inclusion of nutrition indicators during Multi-Disciplinary Assessments (MDAs) and
Rapid needs Assessments at Sub-delegation level
• Ensures quality data collection and entry on food consumption and nutrition data
• Responsible for training enumerators including Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) staff and volunteers
on nutrition and food consumption tools and compiles their feedback on the data collection exercises
• Leads on integration of nutrition activities within EcoSec programming throughout project cycle (will focus on
agriculture, livestock, income support and markets)
• Monitors all nutrition-sensitive activities, and tracks the integrated nutrition indicators to ensure that
implementation is consistent with the planned activities in achieving the set objectives
Certifications / Education required
Bachelor`s Degree in;
• Nutrition
• Public Health
• Nursing
• Or equivalent qualification in a related field of study (Medicine Clinical Medicine, Midwifery, Dietetics, Health
Sciences, Community Health, Environmental Health, Epidemiology Biostatistics/ Demography (if linked to
health research), Biology / Biochemistry (with focus on human health or nutrition)
Professional experience required
• At least 5 years’ experience in management of IMAM or any other similar field of activity
• Project management experience

• Ability to design and implement SMART Nutrition Survey
• Strong facilitation, presentation and report writing skills
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
• Proficiency especially in MS Office suite
• Excellent knowledge of political, social, economic, and cultural aspects in Somalia
