BASE LOCATION:  Hargeisa, Somaliland

GRADE:

CONTRACT LENGTH: 6 MONTHS

REPORT TO: Health Project Assistant/Monitor

LINE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

JOB SUMMARY

The Health Project Intern will be based at Maternal and Child Health Centers (MCHs) and will be responsible for carrying out beneficiary registration on the Electronic Beneficiary Management System (EBMS). They will facilitate the withdrawal and deposit of entitlements for beneficiaries, ensuring the appropriate use of these entitlements. Additionally, the intern will play a key role in forming Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) among project beneficiaries for future programming and community development initiatives.

 

SCOPE OF ROLE:

 

The Health Project Intern will focus on beneficiary registration, management of entitlements, and the formation of VSLAs among project beneficiaries. They will work closely with project staff, beneficiaries, and community members to ensure the effective implementation of project activities.

 

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

 

  1. Register beneficiaries on the EBMS and maintain accurate records of beneficiary information.
  2. Facilitate the withdrawal and deposit of entitlements for beneficiaries in a timely and efficient manner.
  3. Ensure appropriate use of entitlements by beneficiaries in line with project guidelines.
  4. Form VSLAs among project beneficiaries, providing training and support for financial inclusion and community development.
  5. Collaborate with project staff and community members to identify VSLA engagement opportunities and community-driven initiatives.
  6. Track and monitor VSLA progress, providing regular updates to project management.
  7. Participate in project meetings and training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills related to project activities. Foster a collaborative environment for shared learning and problem-solving.

 

SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURS:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for accurate beneficiary registration and entitlement management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with beneficiaries and community members.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently to achieve project goals.
  • Knowledge of community development principles and practices is an asset.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn and grow in a dynamic project environment.

Experiences and Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in public health, health management, social work, or community development, or a related field. A Master’s degree will be an added advantage.

 

  • A proven experience in project implementation, monitoring, and reporting in the health sector.
  • Knowledge of maternal and child health services and health system strengthening principles is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and build effective partnerships.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of community development principles and practices is an asset.
