BACKGROUND

Lifeline-Gedo (LLG) is a Humanitarian, Non-profit and non-governmental organization dedicated to responding to humanitarian emergences through provision of life-saving support mechanisms in partnership with national and international role players, promoting peace and stability, advocate against all kinds of violence, initiate long term and short-term development projects. LLG prioritizes to identify the most appropriate targets for their projects where the poorest communities are suffering most.

  1. POSITION INFORMATION

Position Title: Health Community Supervisor.  

Duty Station: Bardere, Gedo, Somalia

Organizational Unit: Programmes

Reporting Directly To: Health and Nutrition Coordinator. 

Overall Supervision By: Programs Manager.

Remuneration: Negotiable

Managerial Responsibility: None.

Duration: 11 months with the possibility of extension.

Directly Reporting Staff: CHWs, MtMSGs and FtFSGs.

  1. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE

For increasing access to Health and Nutrition, Lifeline Gedo works in urban and remote villages in Gedo region through the provision of health and Nutrition services that include treatment of SAM, MAM, essential maternal and child health services in Partnership with Medair and technical support from the MoH of Jubaland state of Somalia.  

Job Summary:

The Community Health Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the implementation and monitoring of community health activities, ensuring quality service delivery, and promoting health and nutrition within the community. This role involves supervising Community Health Workers (CHWs), Mother-to-Mother Support Groups (MtMSGs), and Father-to-Father Support Groups (FtFSGs), ensuring that all community-based health and nutrition interventions are effectively executed.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Program Implementation

ü  Be responsible for overall planning, implementation, management, supervision, and support of the community outreach component of the project in line with the Somalia Harmonized Community Health model and project work plan.

ü  Ensure timely and accurate data collection, reporting, and documentation of all community health activities.

ü  Collaborate with local health authorities, community leaders, and other stakeholders to enhance community engagement and participation 

Supervision and Support

ü  Provide regular supervision, support, and mentorship to CHWs, MtMSGs, and FtFSGs.

ü  Conduct regular field visits to monitor activities and ensure adherence to project plans and standards.

ü  Identify training needs and facilitate capacity-building sessions for community health staff and volunteers.

Quality Assurance

ü  Monitor the quality of services provided by CHWs, MtMSGs, and FtFSGs, ensuring they meet established standards and guidelines.

ü  Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of community health interventions.

ü  Address challenges and provide solutions to improve service delivery and program outcomes.

ü  Conduct random follow-ups to the communities to access the retention of delivered health messages by CHWs to communities.

ü   

Community Mobilization and Engagement

ü  Ensuring appropriate referrals are made from communities to facilities by CHWs and use of referral slips.

ü  Promote health education and awareness campaigns within the community, focusing on health, hygiene promotion, maternal, infant, young child, and adolescent nutrition.

ü  Foster strong relationships with community members, leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure successful program implementation.

ü  Advocate for the adoption of healthy behaviors and practices among community members.

Reporting and Documentation

ü  Prepare and submit regular reports on community health activities, progress, and challenges to the Health and Nutrition Coordinator.

ü  Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all community health activities and interventions.

ü  Contribute to the development of project proposals, reports, and other documentation as required.

Coordination and Collaboration

ü  Work closely with other project staff to ensure a coordinated and integrated approach to health and nutrition interventions.

ü  Participate in relevant meetings, workshops, and training sessions to stay updated on best practices and emerging trends in community health

Experiences and Qualifications

ü  Bachelor’s degree in public health, Community Health, Nursing, or a related field.

ü  Minimum of 3 years of experience in community health programming, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.

ü  Strong understanding of community health and nutrition issues in the context of Somalia.

ü  Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

ü  Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and communities.

ü  Proficiency in local languages (Somali) and good command of English.

ü  Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.

ü  Proficiency in MS Office applications and data management tools.

Other experiences

ü  Experience working with international NGOs or humanitarian organizations.

ü  Knowledge of social and behavior change communication (SBCC) strategies.

Previous experience working in conflict or post-conflict settings.
