Job Description

Job Title: Health and Nutrition Project Coordinator

Reports to: Health and Nutrition Programme Manager

Direct reports  Health & Nutrition Project Officers       

Job Location: Bardere and frequent visits to other project locations  

Job Purpose:

Under the direct supervision of the   programmes manager, Health and Nutrition project Coordinator is responsible for implementing and oversight g the health and nutrition program implementated by LLG’s inline with EPHS frame work guideline and with MoH   and in   partners. He/she will organize and support all aspects of the health and nutrition program including liaising with the Ministry of Health, international and national agencies   at field level

Main Duties &  Responsibilities:

  • Program Development
  • Lead all health and nutrition program initiatives by providing technical oversight and ensuring quality standards are met in accordance with global standards and donor requirements.
  • Provide day-to-day technical and administrative management, support and guidance to the health and nutrition team and field staff.
  • Evaluate the progress and impact of programs through regular field visits and data analysis on statical reports.
  • Have an over sight of the health and Nutrition Project budget and able to track expenditure vs the actuals
  • Ensures all programs are being implemented in accordance with their approved budgets, and works closely with the Program Manager to find ways to improve operational efficiency on an on-going basis.
  • Lead the development of weekly, monthly, and quarterly work plans and share his/her relevant direct and indirect line managers
  • Support downward accountability in the health and nutrition programme. Promote feedback mechanism including the complaints and response mechanism and ensure the meaningful participation of the communities in programme planning, implementation and monitoring as feasible.
  • Contribute to the development of the health and nutrition related concept notes, proposal and budget as needed, ensuring lessons learnt from previous experiences are factored.

  • Identify existing project implementation gaps and address any issues with partners, donors, and stakeholders.
  • Analyze data from nutrition programs and provide inputs to be used for quality assessment and improvements in overall program quality.
  • Able to clearly understand Community based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) approach.
  • Take part assessments and surveillance interventions (nutrition surveys using ENA for SMART, coverage surveys, sentinel site, LQAS etc.)

 

Representation and collaboration

  • Manage the health and nutrition teams as per agreed roles and ensure adherence to LLG HR policies including the code of conduct.
  • Work closely with key LLG and wider team members in multisectoral consortia as appropriate, especially to promote more nutrition friendly resilience and resilience friendly nutrition (integrated approach). Support direct reports on the same.
  • Ensure all LG and national health and nutrition standards and indicators are up-to-date and well understood by all the nutrition staff, that they are trained and mentored on these standards, as well as held accountable to them.
  • Liaise with health and nutrition experts, to ensure that specialized support is available at the field/district/activity level to increase coverage and overall efficacy of the program.
  •  Represent LLG in national and regional coordination meetings, provide minutes to H&N program Manager
  • Assess training needs of departmental staff and community, develop a training program in order to address any gaps.
  • Endure performance review appraisals and other necessary reviews are undertaken in line with LLG policy.
  • Strengthen the capacity of all health and nutrition team by ensuring through direct training and other opportunities including on the job training (OJT), mentoring and supportive supervision.
  • Regularly able to attending cooridination meetings at nationaland regional levels organized by MoH and International agencies including UNICEF and WFP
  • Able to advocate the program in seeking routine national pipe line supplies
  • Monitoring and Reporting
  • With Support and guidance of the   programmes Manager, develop clear monitoring plans and ensure the team understands them. Ensure that all agreed programme indicators are monitored and quality data collection on regular basis.
  • With the proper coordination of H&N Manager, ensure that the data is analyzed, reviewed, reported, and responded to on an ongoing basis. This includes CMAM performance, programme coverage, community participation, health/nutrition/IYCF knowledge and practice, quality of service delivery and other impact measurements as agreed.

 

  • Review Coordinate and update the HMIS, CMAM database, 4Ws regularly updating relevant stakeholders

 

  •  Work with LLG MEAL team to devise and participate in health and nutrition surveys, periodic assessments, beneficiary interviews etc. as required during programme implementation.
  • Compile and submit weekly and monthly reports to the H&N program Manager in the required format and in timely manner.
  • Prepare internal and external reports as are required (e.g., country level, cluster, ministries, and donors)
  • Support staff to develop strong case studies which demonstrate programme impact. Share with H&N Program Manager.
  • Undertake regular visits (security permitting) to all project’s sites and report back findings and recommendations as soon as possible. Escalate any critical issues or challenges immediately to H&N Manager.

Coordination.

  •  
  • Develop and maintain network of contacts with key actors including government officials and other NGO staff, especially partners implementing health and nutrition activities in Gedo region. Liaise closely with them to build mutually trusting and beneficial relationships and to enhance collaboration as appropriate.
  • Ensure close communication and collaboration with institution and organizations to whom we refer children for in-patient treatment, to help ensure the best outcome for those patients.

Experiences and Qualifications

·         Minimum relevant bachelor’s degree in medicine/public health/nursing/nutrition with significant relevant experience. Masters in any of the fields of medicine/public health/nursing/nutrition is an added advantage.

·         At least 5 years’ experience working in conflict/post conflict context, with preferred work experience in Somalia.

·         Demonstrated experience in gender analysis and women’s empowerment.

·         Demonstrated experience in program assessments, problem analysis and program design.

·         Experience with reporting, budgeting, procurement, and project management.

·         Team player, who can develop strong collaborative relations across the organization, in both the program and program support departments.

·         Proven capacity of managing programs through community engagements

·         Strong gender and conflict analysis skills, and the ability to articulate and design programs using a right based approach.

·         Demonstrated ability to motivate and coach field staff.

·         Ability to work and live under difficult conditions.

·         Computer skills (Ms Word, Ms Excel, power point)
