Job Title: Deputy Matroon
Reports to: Matroon/Admin
Location: Heliwa, Mogadishu
Job Summary:
Deputy matron provide a critical link between hospital management and clinical care, overseeing patient-care operations, assigning and monitoring staff nurses, and identifying and implementing quality improvements. The nursing supervisor is ultimately responsible for healthcare teams and maintaining records, making reports, making decisions in routine cases, and assessing documents and safe smooth operations within a unit.
Job responsibilities:
· Managing the delivery of all nursing aspects of the agreed outputs for their area of responsibility as follows:
· Holding Nurses to account for the delivery of their objectives
· Ensuring effective action is taken where nursing performance is at risk of falling below expected levels and standards are not maintained.
· Ensuring that the Nursing and Midwifery priorities are implemented
· Ensuring that patients are cared for in a clean and safe environment taking remedial action if standards are not maintained.
· Ensures smooth running of all operations and hospital activities at night
· Manage and respond to complaints and adverse incidents related to nursing care.
· Undertaking root cause analysis and developing action plans, ensuring that this leads to change in practice in the nursing department
· Be a champion for driving the infection prevention and control agenda and challenging poor practice
· In collaboration with the Matron, establish and maintain effective communication with patients, relatives, and staff to contribute to the active resolution of potentially complex situations, conflicts, and issues
· Share best practices and drive improvements in patient care through the service teams & Clinical therapeutics committee.
· Be a visible leader who is accessible to both patients, & visitors
· Promotion of a nurturing environment for patients, relatives, visitors, and staff through monitoring, measuring, and evaluating.
· Implementing a system for gaining patient feedback, responding to adverse outcomes
· Implement emergency preparedness in the hospital
· Support the development and implementation of education and training programs.
· Be responsible for developing own skills and knowledge and contribute to the development of others.
· Assist in ensuring that the nurses’ duty roaster meets the hospital needs
· Oversee the process of continuous performance review within the allocated area of responsibility
· Help in monitoring and regulating leave for staff under your supervision
· To carry out any other duties and/or responsibilities assigned by the Supervisor.
· Ultimately, she/he should be able to ensure smooth nursing operation at the facility through day-to-day management and long-term planning
· Make a round of patient rooms, operating theaters, in-house pharmacies, and other facilities and personally address patients' concerns or needs
· Attend regular department meetings
· Ensure full implementation of administrative responsibility at night, like patient waiving lab/U/S fee, objectively resolving problems, and making timely decisions affecting the team and the operations of their work
· Supervises especially, the clinic cleaning services
Hold a bachelor’s degree in Nurse/Midwife/public health or clinic.
· A minimum of 4 to 5 years' experience in a relevant or same position is required.
· National Health Professionals Council (NHPC) License-Mandatory
· Previous experience in public/NGO or Donor funded position, is preferable.
· Strong knowledge of child rights and child protection.
· Prefect in computer software skills
· Problem solving/ negotiation skills
· Effective communication skills.
· Fluent in both written and spoken English
· Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure
· Very enthusiastic and able to work extra hours to achieve the objectives of the organization.
· Excellent attention to detail
· Able to take the lead in a particular area of responsibility
· Strong organizational skills: Prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
· Excellent leadership skills: Motivate, inspire, and guide a team of caregivers.
· Effective communication: Communicate clearly and concisely with staff, residents/patients, and their families.
· Reporting and documentation: Maintain accurate and comprehensive medical records and reports.
