1. Background
Displacements caused by conflict, insecurity, and recurrent climatic shocks continue to expose
vulnerable communities in Beledweyne to significant humanitarian and protection risks. Women and
girls living in Internally Displaced Places (IDP) camps are particularly affected by limited access to
basic hygiene and personal care materials, inadequate household resources, and challenges in
maintaining their dignity and privacy.
For women and adolescent girls, the lack of essential hygiene and personal care items can have
direct consequences on their health, dignity, confidence, mobility, and participation in community
and livelihood activities. These challenges may become more severe for female-headed households,
adolescent girls, women with disabilities, pregnant and lactating women, and other individuals
experiencing heightened vulnerability.
In response to these needs, ActionAid International Somalia (AAIS) will provide dignity kits
containing essential hygiene and personal care items to selected vulnerable women and girls living
in targeted IDP camps in Beledweyne. The intervention will complement ongoing protection, GBV
prevention, awareness-raising, and community engagement activities. In addition to addressing
immediate material needs, distribution will provide an opportunity to strengthen awareness on
personal hygiene, protection, GBV prevention, available referral pathways, and available support
services.
2. Purpose of the activity
The purpose of the dignity kit distribution is to support vulnerable women and girls in targeted IDP
camps in Beledweyne to meet their essential hygiene and personal care needs while promoting
dignity, protection, and well-being. This activity aims to ensure that women and girls who have
limited financial capacity can access basic items necessary for maintaining personal hygiene and
dignity in the challenging conditions of displacement.
3. Overall objective
To improve the dignity, hygiene, protection, and well-being of vulnerable women and girls living in
four IDP camps in Beledweyne through the provision of essential hygiene and personal care items.

3.1. Specific objectives
- To provide essential hygiene and personal care items to vulnerable women and girls living in four IDP camps.
- To support women and girls to maintain personal hygiene and dignity despite the challenges associated with displacement.
- To reduce the negative effects of limited access to hygiene and personal care materials on women's and girls' health, dignity, mobility, and participation.
- To strengthen awareness among beneficiaries on hygiene, sanitation, GBV prevention, women's and children's protection, and available support and referral services.
- To ensure that the distribution is conducted in a safe, inclusive, accountable, and protectionsensitive manner.
- To strengthen linkages between vulnerable women and girls and existing protection, GBV, psychosocial, health, and other referral services where required.
4. Target beneficiaries
The primary beneficiaries will be vulnerable women and adolescent girls living in four IDP camps in Beledweyne, Priority will be given to individuals and households experiencing heightened vulnerability, including:
