Job Description

The Role:

In collaboration with the Project Manager -Child Protection and Education and other members of the GFFO integrated project, the Project Officer will provide the day-to-day main streaming and Management of all GBV and Child Protection cases including the identification, documentation, developing case plans and follow up. S/he will liaise directly with other service providers working within the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s) and host communities where the project is implemented and facilitate referrals to other service providers (health including mental health, shelter & non-food Items). The incumbent will ensure that Survivor Centred Approach Guiding principles are maintained and enforced while working with survivors.  The position holder will facilitate the setting up of information desk at the MCHs where adolescent and women of reproductive age can access information on reporting, referral and available GBV services.

Key Responsibilities:

Work with men, women, boys and girls, community members and other duty bearers to ensure they are actively engaged to protect women and children from protection risks.

Oversee case management (including follow up on referrals and action plans) and support services provided to children and GBV survivors.

Initiate planning for longer-term GBV and CP violations prevention and response activities, including referral pathway and standard operating procedures.

Maintain, monitor and measure project implementation and contribute to effective information management on project activities.

Closely work with the Project Manager - Child Protection and ensure that staff implement and respect best-practice and international standards in prevention and responsee to GBV and child rights violations.

Participate in the design of project activities, monitoring systems and capacity building activities for partners, community members and children.

Ensure systematic means by which child protection and GBV protection concerns can be identified (including unaccompanied and separated children), assessed and have their details documented in the GBVIMS and Primero system or through a data base.

Implement with program operations and field-based activities.

Submit quality reports as scheduled including but not limited to weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports.

Submit monthly 5W matrix to Project Manager for compilation.

Work with the Project Manager -Child Protection Education to develop evidence-based proposals and budgets that reflect urgent and emerging needs among children and women.

Document project success stories on a monthly basis for sharing with the support office and donors during the monthly update meetings.

Work with MEAL to ensure the project beneficiaries including children have access to the accountability mechanisms.

Ensure all issues raised through the Community Response Mechanism (CRM) are closed within 30 days.

Report all safeguarding incidents and SEA concerns to the focal point.

Actively participate in local child protection and GBV working groups at the district level.

Experiences and Qualifications

 

Degree in Social work /Social sciences or equivalent.

Minimum two years work experience in child protection or social work with a demonstrated focus on GBV program design and implementation.

Knowledge of community-based child protection approaches, preferably including experience in participatory approaches (PRA/PLA) and child participation methodologies.

Basic familiarity with MS application packages (Word, Excel and database software)

Good communication skills with fluency in written and spoken English and Somali.

Demonstrated experience and knowledge in child participation approaches and training activities for children and youth.

Working Environment:

The position will be based in Jowhar, Hirshabeele State with regular travel to other field locations for donor and stakeholders’ engagements.
