Brief Introduction

Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been working in 

Somalia since 1964. As a service provider with worldwide operations in the fields of 

international cooperation for sustainable development and international education work, GIZ 

works with its partners to develop effective solutions that offer people better prospects and 

sustainably improve their living conditions. The goal of GIZ is to support the capacity 

development of people, organizations and institutional structures in the partner countries so 

as to enable them better their living conditions through their own efforts.

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, on behalf of the 

German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is 

implementing various projects in Somalia, across multiple sectors and regions. One of the 

projects is the project “Promotion of climate resilient for food security in Jubbaland”.

The proposed new transitional development assistance project aims to improve food and 

nutrition security and strengthen the resilience of selected communities in Jubaland by 

integrating disaster risk management and climate adaptation measures.

The project has three OUTPUTS. A, agriculture & nutrition, B Business/income generating 

activities and C water, the 3 OUTPUTS have indicators leading to project OUTCOME 

achievements.

An essential prerequisite for strengthening the resilience of the target group is access to 

nutritious food (output A). The impact hypothesis for Output A is that nutrition-sensitive and 

climate-adapted varieties can be identified for peri-urban Kismayo, and the target group 

trained in their cultivation as a contribution to improved climate adaptation strategies 

regarding food security (project objective) (Gollin et al. 2021). The assumption is that the 

vulnerable households will see the medium and long-term benefits of climate change 

adaptation measures and in RRM in agricultural production.

Output B aims to improve income generation opportunities for households in the target 

communities. The impact hypothesis is that diversification of income opportunities will 

contribute to improved climate adaptation strategies for food security (project objective; CPE 

report UFSP).

CFSP is seeking a dedicated Project assistant who contributes to the planning and 

implementation of both OUTPUTA & OUTPUT B. The assistant will be working with and 

reporting to the technical Team in Kismayo.

Responsibilities

➢ The assistant will support the Technical Office team in coordinating and managing 

technical documentation, assisting with project planning, and ensuring smooth dayto-day

operat

He/she will be contributing to the achievement of climate resilience and disaster 

resilience food security project (CFSP). 

➢ He /She will be responsible for supporting the technical managers in physical and virtual 

filing and data management

➢ He/she will cooperate constructively with all internal and external stakeholders and help 

work on the issues and tasks that arise in the project. 

➢ The assistant will ensure that information flows correctly, refer matters to other units as 

required and ensure that all processes run smoothly

Other duties/additional tasks 

➢ Assist in preparing and organizing project documentation specifications and 

reports.

➢ Maintain and update technical files and records in a systematic manner in the 

standard set online folders.

➢ Support in coordinating project schedules, resources, and meeting agendas

➢ Participate in field visits once/twice per week.

➢ Collect relevant field data file and keep the record and share field reports and 

minutes to the technical team in GIZ coordination office in Kismayo.

➢ Communicate with internal take holders regarding technical matters.

➢ Assist in furnishing the office and improving visibility.

➢ Prepare routine reports and progress updates for the technical office.

➢ Provide support to the team, including managing calendars, scheduling 

meetings, and preparing presentations 

Experiences and Qualifications

(Qualifications and specialist area)

➢ Degree in social science, or a related technical field (or equivalent work 

experience).

➢ A diploma with 2 years of relevant experience. And experience in livelihood and 

food security is an added advantage.

➢ Basic knowledge of project management and technical documentation 

processes.

➢ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

➢ Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

➢ Ability to work in a team and manage multiple tasks efficiently.

➢ Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

➢ Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed and work full time 

(40 hours per week)

➢ Willingness to visit field areas (Gobweyn and Luglow)
