Welthungerhilfe (WHH) Welthungerhilfe is one of the biggest private development organizations in Germany. It was founded in 1962 as the National Committee for the Freedom from Hunger Campaign of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Welthungerhilfe is non-profit, non-political, and non-denominational. With a global presence in 37 countries, WHH has been actively engaged in multisector interventions across four regions of Somaliland (Awdal, Maroodi-jeh, Toghdeer, and Sanaag) since 2001 and recently secured EU funding for Toghdeer, Somaliland.
WHH is looking for a professionally confident, self-motivated, experienced, and committed team player to fill the vacant position of Natural Resource Management Assistant. The primary responsibility involves assisting the NRM officer in collaborating with project target groups to promote sustainable land management, rangeland protection, and community engagement. The selected assistance will closely liaise with NRM officer in the project / activity implementation.
1. Objectives of the position
The primary goal of the NRM Assistance position is to provide direct and strategic support to the Natural Resource Management unit, facilitating the advancement of programs and projects within the specified framework. The position entails actively contributing to impactful program and project development by closely collaborating with the Natural Resource Management team, ensuring strict alignment with specified frameworks. The role also involves communication management to secure and enhance channels for Welthungerhilfe's work. Taking the lead in the NRM demonstrations and implementing strategies to showcase best practices in natural resource management. Additional duties involve organizing workshops and events at district and village levels to promote sustainable practices. The role also provides hands-on assistance in implementing NRM components, actively supporting initiatives for environmental protection, sustainable land management, and community resilience..
2. Duties and area of responsibility
2.1. Duties with own area of responsibility
1. Responsible for promoting and providing support to the target groups related to the project.
2. Assist project implementation related to NRM components of the project
3. Prepare or plan tasks disaggregated into daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly portions.
4. Responsible to disseminate NRM messages at community and household level.
5. Supervise NRM demonstrations.
6. Liaise with water supply and sanitation field staff in the project implementation creating synergies where feasible .
7. Organize workshops, conferences and meetings at district and village levels.
8. Support the NRM Expert during the establishment of closed-out areas and DRM committees at their respective villages
9. Ensure regular close monitoring of all NRM sites, which includes soil bund construction, check dams, and protection of degraded land, among others, as advised by the NRM expert
10. Facilitate linking of NRM activities, agriculture and NHS on the ground at the community levels for the project
2.2 Duties without own area of responsibility
1. Summit well detailed monitoring and progress reports to NRM Expert and HoP.
2. Document project lessons following the agricultural interventions and share the report with line manager
3. Provide community feedback on NRM projects, positive or negative an summit reports to NRM Expert and HoP
4. Perform any other duties assigned.
2.3 Specific Activities and duties of the position
I. JOB REQUIREMENTS
1. Knowledge/ Qualifications
1.1 Bachelor’s degree in environmental protection, natural resource management. Agriculture or related fields.
1.2 Professional/ formal qualification
§ Extensive experience in implementing sustainable land management, rangeland protection, and community engagement projects.
§ Strong project management and community mobilization skills.
§ Knowledge of Somali environmental laws and policies is an advantage.
1.3 Job-related professional experience
2 years’ professional experience in planning and implementation of environmental protection and natural resources components.
1.4 Foreign language skills
Ability to communicate in both English and Somali

Ability to cope in a tropical climate.
