Position: Medical Lab Science Tutor
Reports to: College Principal
Duty station: Mogadishu/Heliwa
Job summary:
The position holder is expected to work at SOS College of Health Science where s/he will be responsible for the preparation and delivery of the theoretical and practical trainings for the trainees under the supervision of the senior lecturers & the college principal.
Job responsibilities:
Ø Meet with students individually and in small groups to reinforce and assist students with understanding content taught in courses like biochemistry, microbiology, parasitology, and immunology.
Ø Prepare lecture notes in alignment with the training curriculum.
Ø Create lesson plans and schemes of work for effective lecture delivery.
Ø Present lectures to health science students (e.g., nursing, midwifery) in subjects like biochemistry, microbiology, parasitology, and immunology.
Ø Ensure all necessary practical materials, equipment, and resources are available and ready for student use in laboratory and field settings.
Ø Organize and manage the distribution and proper use of laboratory supplies and equipment.
Ø Arrange students’ theory and practical schedules
Ø Conduct timely assessments of students’ learning progress using both formative and summative methods to evaluate understanding and retention.
Ø Supervise and assess students during practical fieldwork and laboratory sessions, ensuring they acquire hands-on experience and skills.
Ø Maintain accurate records of students’ attendance.
Ø Conduct regular and periodic mentorship and coaching sessions for students.
Ø Work closely with senior lecturers to understand and fulfill assigned roles and responsibilities.
Ø Prepare and maintain detailed records of students’ performance.
Ø Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching and research issues
Ø To undertake such other duties as may be determined from time to time within the general scope of the post.
Job competencies:
The candidate vying for the position has to fulfil the following conditions to be eligible to the person. The candidate should:
Ø Hold a master’s or PhD degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Biochemistry, Medical Microbiology, Parasitology, Immunology, or a closely related field.
Ø Have at least 3 years of relevant teaching experience in higher education, particularly in medical laboratory science or related subjects at university level.
Ø Demonstrate experience in delivering lectures, conducting laboratory sessions, and mentoring students in biochemistry, microbiology, parasitology, and immunology.
Ø Show proficiency in developing and implementing curriculum and instructional materials.
Ø Having a proven track record of research in medical laboratory sciences, evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals will be an added value.
Ø Exhibit strong interpersonal skills to interact with students, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
Ø Be adaptable to changing educational environments and able to incorporate new teaching strategies and technologies.
Ø Have good communication, mentoring, coaching & presentation skills.
Ø Handle student information and academic records with discretion, adhering to institutional policies and relevant regulation
Ø Be proficient in written & spoken English
Ø Have a ToT/ToF training certificate.
Ø Be a computer literate
Ø Be a good team player.
