iMMAP Somalia
iMMAP Inc. Somalia was established in 2023 to enhance support for humanitarian actors in the country through tailored information management (IM) services. The primary objective is to utilize the Humanitarian Information Support Team (HIST) to effectively tackle the multifaceted challenges arising from complex crises in Somalia. Services provided by iMMAP Inc. include comprehensive assistance through specialized tools, expertise in data analysis and visualization, and capacity-building initiatives through training programs for humanitarian actors in Somalia, including organizations like UNOCHA, the Somalia Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Operational Cell (OC), Area-Based Coordination (ABCs) and the Somalia NGO Consortium.
Expectations from the Position Holder To strengthen information management, geospatial analysis, and impact assessment capabilities by implementing advanced data processing, automation, and visualization techniques. The role will ensure efficient data management, facilitate coordination with project partners, and provide capacity-building support to enhance stakeholders' skills and understanding. It will also focus on conducting comprehensive research and producing high-quality analytical and narrative reports that integrate geospatial and quantitative data with qualitative insights. Through robust frameworks, targeted training, and evidence-based reporting, this position will drive informed decision-making and demonstrate measurable impacts of project interventions. This position holder is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing coordination, building capacity within the project team and partners, and demonstrating the impact of interventions on targeted communities. They will also be responsible for producing high-quality reports that effectively capture project progress, challenges, and achievements. This includes drafting detailed analytical and narrative reports, integrating quantitative data and qualitative insights, and presenting findings in a manner that informs decision-making and supports accountability to stakeholders. Description of Duties
· Conduct research and impact analysis through data modeling and visualization, translating findings into actionable insights to guide project adjustments and demonstrate project value.
· Conduct granular information triangulation and automate the data cleaning and analysis using recent technology and tools.
· Develop analytical reports that synthesize data findings, trends, and recommendations, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative insights to provide a comprehensive narrative. Ensure reports are well-structured, clear, and tailored to the needs of diverse stakeholders, effectively communicating complex information in an accessible and actionable manner.
· Design data analysis and visualization plans for Multisector Rapid Need and regular assessments.
· Manage and maintain geospatial datasets, ensuring a robust archiving system.
· Develop a framework for the information management system, based on the needs and requirements identified during the assessment.
· Create a symbology library, map layers (including features and attribute tables), and standardized map and dashboard templates.
· Build interactive web maps, dashboards, and web applications (ArcGIS story maps)
· Remote sensing data analysis support whenever the need arises.
· Develop geoprocessing models to automate GIS workflows using programming and model builder applications.
· Develop GIS/IM training materials and deliver training for project beneficiaries.
· Provide training and technical support to assist with the information management-related work of project partners.
· Coordinate closely with project partners to ensure alignment of data management and analysis efforts, promoting integration and consistency across sectors.
· Support to draft project progress reports.
· Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Education
· Master’s degree from an internationally recognized university in the field of Information Technology, Information Management, Geo-informatics or GIS, Computer Sciences, or a similar field is Mandatory. A bachelor’s degree might be considered with more than 7 years of relevant experience.
· Advanced courses in the relevant IM subjects are advantageous
Experience
· A minimum of five years of experience with an INGO and UN agency in humanitarian information management, research/assessments, GIS, database management, data visualization, and or data analysis.
· Mandatory experience in conducting impact analysis by developing data models and visualizations that translate complex data into actionable insights, enabling evidence-based adjustments and demonstrating the value and outcomes of project interventions.
· Mandatory background in impact assessment and reporting, with a track record of producing high-quality analytical and narrative reports.
· Mandatory Graphic design skills in InDesign and Adobe Illustrator and Programming skills in R, Python, or SQL; experience in remote Sensing, Power BI, QGIS, and ArcGIS would be an advantage.
· Mandatory understanding of data QA/QC processes for information management.
· Mandatory knowledge of humanitarian context, coordination challenges, and gaps in the protracted crisis contexts. Experience in Somalia is an asset.
· A good knowledge of programming theory and relational database principles
· Experience working with Disaster risk management Agencies, NGO/INGO/HINGO forums, and Cash working groups as an Information management officer
· Proven experience in conducting Information management training for government and local NGO staff.
Soft skills
· An understanding of the analysis spectrum and specific analytical techniques to ensure each level of analysis is covered, i.e., descriptive, explanatory, interpretive, anticipative, and prescriptive analysis.
· Knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, with excellent writing skills and the ability to produce clear, concise, and impactful reports tailored to different audiences.
· Ability to analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative information from various sources including knowledge of techniques and criteria to assess the reliability of sources and credibility of information.
· Effective communication skills to work among clusters, agencies, humanitarian partners, and Government counterparts.
· Understanding of Area Based Coordination (ABCs) system and Information needs for Rapid Response Mechanisms (RRMs)
· Good organizational skills to deliver products on time and with quality.
· High level of written and spoken English with excellent analytical skills.
· Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
· Ability to understand and adapt to complex and dynamic situations.
· Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
· Good facilitation skills to achieve strong consensus between stakeholders.
Software skills
· ArcGIS/QGIS, Power BI, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Google Earth engine, etc.
· R/Python/MySQL/and Advanced knowledge of Excel data cleaning and analysis functions
· Kobo toolbox.
