Background**
The Somalia Nexus Accelerator Fund (SNAF) supports vulnerable communities in Luuq District by addressing the interconnected challenges of conflict, climate change, and chronic poverty. Through sequenced and integrated humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding interventions, the program aims to strengthen the long-term resilience of extremely poor and socially marginalized populations in the Gedo and Bay regions. As part of these efforts, the NAF Project is supporting 200 smallholder farmers across five farming locations along the Jubba River. In 2025, the project provided training, certified seeds, irrigation pumps, and rehabilitation of irrigation canals to enhance agricultural productivity. Despite these interventions, farmers continue to face challenges such as drought, pest outbreaks, and economic shocks. To ensure timely land preparation ahead of the upcoming planting season, the project will provide tractor ploughing services. * **Benefits of tractor tillage**
* Improves soil quality: Tillage breaks up soil crusts, increasing porosity and allowing water to penetrate more easily.
* Aids seed germination: A well-prepared seedbed promotes strong root growth for optimal crop development.
* Manages weeds: It helps control weeds by burying seeds, uprooting them, or creating a seedbed that allows the crop to establish ahead of weeds.
* Raises soil temperature: Tilling can help regulate soil temperature for better crop growth.
* Incorporates organic matter: Tillage practices can mix crop residue and other organic materials into the soil, improving its fertility
* **Scope**
The purpose is to hire a tillage tractor service to deliver tractor ploughing services to five targeted farming locations in Luuq District. The support aims to ensure timely land preparation and increase agricultural productivity for NAF-supported farmers.
Project Field Team will supervise daily operations, verify hours delivered, and ensure compliance with standards.
