Job Summary:

 

 

The Education  Officer  will support the implementation of school‑based eye health activities aimed at identifying, referring, and supporting children with uncorrected refractive errors. The role ensures effective collaboration between schools, parents, project teams, and health facilities to improve children’s access to eye screening, eyeglasses, and follow‑up care. The  Officer t contributes directly to awareness creation, coordination of school screenings, data collection, and ensuring inclusive learning environments for children with vision difficulties.

 

Accountabilities

A. School Engagement & Awareness

  • Support the identification and mobilization of target schools for eye screening activities.
  • Conduct school visits to raise awareness among teachers, students, and parents about eye health and the importance of early screening.
  • Assist in distributing educational materials and delivering simple health‑education sessions.
  • Submit weekly and monthly report on the progress
  • Submit final report of the projects
  • Prepare mid term and end term evaluation
  • Work closely with the ministry of health , local authority and the ministry of education
  • Support and facilitate school inspectors, ophthalmic technicians trained to detect visual impairments and refer students for appropriate care.

B. Screening Support & Child Management

  • Work with teachers to arrange classroom screening schedules.
  • Facilitate the organization of screening sessions, ensuring student flow and accurate record‑keeping.
  • Provide guidance and reassurance to children during screenings to ensure comfort and cooperation.
  • Support referral processes for children who need clinical assessment.
  • Work closely with the medical team to receive medical treatments for common eye infections.
  • Work closely with the medical team for the students to undergo surgical interventions for complex eye problems requiring advanced correction.

C. Community & Parent Engagement

  • Conduct parent meetings to communicate results, referrals, and the benefits of eyeglasses for children with refractive errors.
  • Follow up with parents to encourage compliance with referrals and wearing of eyeglasses.

D. Data Collection & Reporting

  • Collect and organize screening data, referral tracking sheets, and attendance logs.
  • Submit accurate daily and weekly reports to the Project Officer.
  • Participate in monitoring and evaluation activities, including surveys and assessments.
  • Visit school and plan accordingly on the issue of the eye screening
  • Develop tentative plan to undertake the process of the screening to complete the task and coverage

E. Operational Support

  • Coordinate logistics for school activities (transportation of screening kits, materials, and forms).
  • Support training workshops for teachers on basic eye health concepts and early identification of vision problems.
  • Assist in distribution of eyeglasses and educate students on their use and care.
  • Work closely with the medical team during the screening and provide all the necessary support.

 

F. Child Protection & Safeguarding

  • Uphold safeguarding standards and ensure safe interaction with children at all times.
  • Report any child protection concerns in line with organizational policies
  • Inform the consultant and medical team to ensure safeguarding , child protection and other child related rights in relation to the projects

Experiences and Qualifications

Education

       Master degree or over 4 years experience in the education sector

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, Community Development, or related field

      Proficiency in computer applications including Word, excel, power point and other applications

 

Experience

·         Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in community outreach, school programming, education support, or child-focused work

·         Experience working with children in a school or community setting.

 

·          An excellent understanding of and practical, experience with program design, program management cycle, M&E, budget management and ethics in programming;

·           Experience in donor reporting and proposal writing;

·         Strong skills in networking, representation and building relations with diverse stakeholders Sound knowledge of international donor procedures;

·          Ability to work independently, exercise judgement and flexibility in a very challenging environment;

·          Demonstrated organizational skills;

·          Strong team leadership and conflict resolution skills, adaptability and interest in capacity building;
