Background:

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an independent humanitarian organisation helping people forced to flee. We protect displaced people and support them as they build a new future. We specialise in six areas: cash and market, education, shelter, legal assistance, camp management, and water, sanitation and hygiene. We stand up for people forced to flee. The Education Assistant role supports the day-to-day implementation of education projects in Lascanood, ensuring effective delivery of activities in line with NRC standards and objectives. All NRC staff are expected to uphold the organization's core values of Dedication, Innovation, Inclusivity, and Accountability.

Responsibilities

Generic Responsibilities:

• Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
• Assist with the implementation of the support function portfolio according to plan of action

• Prepare and develop status reports as required by management

   

• Ensure proper filing of documents 

• Promote and share ideas for improvement of the support function

Specific responsibilities:

• Work with the Community Education Committees (CECs) in the identification, enrolment and effective learning of the pupil to the respective education programme in accordance with NRC standards and criteria.

• Prepare requisition, distribute and monitor the use of school learning materials

• Regularly monitor and report on the project activities in the field 

• Cost, requisition and administer teachers', field-based persons and activity participants' payments and entitlements

   

• Conduct assessment on new school to start up

• Monitor and report on any protection related concerns that are identified through regular school visits and assessments.

• Make school visits to assess, monitor and give support to teachers supported by NRC.

• Assist in creating awareness in the community on the importance of education especially for girls, IDPs and other vulnerable pupils.

• Assist in translating various learning materials from English to Somali language for local understanding.

• Assist the teacher in developing learning material including teaching aids using locally available materials.

• Participate in trainings, workshops, meetings and seminars related to education and protection activities

   

• Generate consolidated and costed weekly, monthly & quarterly activity plans and reports

Experiences and Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field. 
• Minimum of 2 to 3 years of relevant professional experience.   
• Previous experience working in complex, challenging, and volatile environments. 
• Experience working as a Project Assistant in a humanitarian, recovery, or development context.
• Strong ability to work under pressure, independently, and with minimal supervision.
•  Excellent community mobilization and stakeholder engagement skills. 
• Strong documentation, reporting, and results-management capabilities.
•  Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
• Excellent one-to-one capacity building skills
• Goal-oriented with strong planning, prioritization, and problem-solving abilities.  
• Ability to effectively identify, manage, and resolve conflicts.
• High level of cultural awareness, sensitivity, and respect for diversity.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships.
• Effective team player with the ability to collaborate across diverse groups and stakeholders.
• Ability to maintain professionalism, integrity, and accountability in all aspects of work.
• A strong understanding of humanitarian principles, Do No Harm, and protection/safeguarding protocols is desirable.

• Duty station: Laascoond
• Contract duration:  9 months  renewable subject to performance and availability of funding.
