POLISH HUMANITARIAN ACTION IS LOOKING FOR A COMMUNICATION OFFICER

About PAH:

Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) is a non-governmental organization whose mission is to make the world a better

place. For over 20 years, we have been providing relief in big and small emergencies worldwide alongside running

long-term missions in several countries in crisis. Our interventions – of both humanitarian and development character

– have been carried out in 44 countries so far. Our focus is on ensuring sustainable and stable development of regions suffering the consequences of war and/or natural disasters. We possess long-standing expertise in Water, Sanitation,

and Hygiene (WASH), but we also implement projects in Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), as well as Nutrition and Education. For more information, please refer to www.pah.org.pl.

PAH Mission in Somalia:

PAH is an international humanitarian organization with it is headquarters in Warsaw Poland. Present in Somalia since 2011, PAH has specialized in integrated programs including WASH, Nutrition, Food Security and Livelihoods, and community-based Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). PAH has operations in Banadir, Lower Shebelle, Middle Shebelle, and Galmudug regions of Somalia and Hiraan and Bay region through our cooperating partners. Our current donors are ECHO, GFFO, SHF, WFP, Private donors, and UNICEF

Purpose of the position.

The Communication Officer will work closely with projects to assist, build, and support program communication needs. He will be directly reporting to the Head of Programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation of PAH Somalia Communications Strategy, based on the Country Advocacy Strategy, commitments to donors, and in line with PAH Global Communications Strategy.
  • Work collaboratively with, PAH program team at the country office to develop communications action plans that reflect the use of a variety of different communication tools (photos, case studies, short videos, etc.)
  • Liaise with PAH programs teams to ensure, PAH is meeting its commitments to donors and communicating appropriately with communities.
  • Undertake regular travel to PAH program locations to gather high-quality content relating to PAH programs.
  • Support all program teams with the development of visibility materials, ensuring these are developed in compliance with PAH and donor guidelines.
  • Draft creative products that portray the humanitarian situation and needs in a manner that is dignified and focuses on the strengths and capacity of people in Somalia, allowing them to tell their own stories.
  • Work closely with the Desk officer and communications colleagues at the HQ level to develop, coordinate, and improve communications materials.
  • Supports communication-related training and coaching for program staff in Somalia
  • Translates documents from English/Somali to Somali /English in support of communication programs
  • Represents PAH to various audiences, maintains contact, and communicates with different interlocutors in Somalia
  • Develop a quarterly and yearly newsletter on the initiative’s activities and achievements.
  • Ensure the ethical communication of the projects and PAH activities according to internal and external standards
  • Maintain and organize photo and video documentation

Experiences and Qualifications

University degree in Communications, Journalism/Graphic design, or related fields

  • Minimum two years of INGO or equivalent experience working in a communications-related field
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with photography and videography, including video editing
  • Demonstrated skills using Adobe Premiere bro, Photoshop, and other relevant programs
  • Knowledge and experience of donor communications requirements
  • Knowledge and experience drafting communications material in Somali and English
  • High-level English language proficiency (speaking, reading, writing)
  • computer skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access)
