JOB ANNOUNCEMENT- BENCH WORKER

Job Grade:  Band 2

Department:  Galkayo Rehab. Centre

Location: Galkayo

Reports To:  Head of Workshop

Direct Reports:  N/A

Background:

SRCS is an independent, non-political humanitarian organisation. It was established in April 1963 and became a legal entity following Presidential Decree No. 187 in 1965. SRCS has operated continuously throughout the country’s period of civil war and political divide and is credited for its unity as one National Society. It operates through a network of nineteen branches with activities spread all across the country.

Overall Job Purpose

Under general supervision of the Head of the Department, the Bench worker will perform rectification assistance for prosthetic and orthotic devices by repairing, replacing, adjusting, simple modification as well as finishing cosmetics.

The BW is reporting to the Workshop Leader or Section Leader of his/her particular section or to the one at any time in charge of the section. The BW works in close collaboration with other sections of the workshop, with the Administrator and other departments of the Center

Essential Duties /Roles & Responsibilities  of this Position:

  • Plan the daily activities of his/her position
  • Follow the guidelines of the Workshop Leader or ORT and ensure that the time given for his/her activities are kept and deadlines for delivers are met
  • Make sure that the quality of the work piece produced by him/her is the best possible
  • Ensure careful handling and proper maintenance of all machines and equipment being used by the technicians in the production of orthopedic appliances in the Workshop
  • Ensure the tidiness, cleanliness and upkeep of the Orthopedic Workshop
  • Maintain close and positive collaboration with other sections of the Center as well as other departments
  • Perform other technical duties as instructed by the supervisors
  • Give a hand to the section leader any time a technical report needs to be written.
  • To assist the technician for the manufacturing of the appliances.
  • To complete manufacturing of Prosthesis and Orthotics in a certain area.
  • To produce Crutches.
  • Aligns and miters frame part edges, using mitering machine.
  • Inserts and tightens screws, nuts, and bolts to assemble parts, using hand tools.
  • Performs any combination of following activities to prepare the required items frames for assembly, using bench-mounted machines and hand tools or power tools: Drills or punches holes in frame components, using drill or punch press.
  • Maintain the hygiene and arrangement of the department equipments after use.
  •  Attend and participate department trainings to enhance knowledge and skills required for the job.
  • Ensure the department guidelines and disciplines to be followed during service provision
  • Perform cosmetic finishing of devices after fitting, cutting or smoothing devices.
  • Bench alignment correction and repairing some of the devices.
  • Aligns and miters frame part edges, using mitering machine.
  • Inserts and tightens screws, nuts, and bolts to assemble parts, using hand tools.
  • Performs any combination of following activities to prepare the required items frames for assembly, using bench-mounted machines and hand tools or power tools: Drills or punches holes in frame components, using drill or punch press.
  • Draping the positive mould and assembling the components.
  • Improve capacity to finish major devices and the production of foot orthosis
  • Collaboration with the orthopaedic team for problem solving and critical thinking issues.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Reporting

  • Collect and maintain day to day data regarding the production of orthopedic appliances and report to workshop leader.
  • Generate daily and weekly activity report to report the major activities you performed and challenges.
  • By every 1st every month prepare a report with activities of the last month and all available statistics, this report will go to the workshop leader with copy to the administrator.
  • Give a hand to the workshop leader, the administrator and/or the Director any time a technical report needs to written.

Experiences and Qualifications

  • Secondary school graduate or higher equivalent education desired
  • Healthcare related training course
  • Should have relevant experience and Technical skills
  • Basic computer skills (Word, excel, power point)
  • Good communication skills in Somali & English language
  • Age: 22 – 35
