Job Description

As part of the WHO Extended Programme on Immunization/Polio Eradication Initiative team and under the direct technical supervision of the National SIA coordinator and administratively under the Federal Polio Team Leader with the overall guidance of the WHO

Representative, the incumbent will be responsible for supporting the National SIA coordinator in the implementation of Supplementary Immunization activities jointly with the Government and all partner agencies operational in Somalia (comprising of UN agencies, international and national governmental organizations, counterparts, and 1oca1authorities).He/She will also help to provide technical advice to the national SIA coordinator to coordinate the response to the wild polio/ Circulating Vaccine Derived Polio Virus (cVDPV) outbreak in particular as well as outbreak response for other VPDsin Somalia.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Analyze epidemiological and immunization data of any assigned state to identify strategic areas of focus for supplementary immunization activities.
  2. Identify and recommend actions required to achieve high immunity against polioviruses through supplementary immunization activities across the country.
  3. Work closely with all MoH, UNICEF, Rotary and other relevant partner agencies on strengthening supplementary immunization activities. This includes technical input on planning, training, and improving social mobilization and Information Education and Communication (IEC) activities.
  4. Contribute to the review and update of SIA micro plans and other documents to ensure rational distributions of resources for quality campaigns.
  5. Collect, analyze and use Supplemental immunization Activities (SIAs) reporting and monitoring.

  1. Provide technical advice and build capacity of field staff to facilitate implementation and monitoring of polio supplementary immunization activities including NIDs, SNIDs and mopping-up immunization activities.
  2. Write and review reports on the quality of SIAs for internal WHO review and to share with the government and partners.
  3. Undertake any other task, duty and/or activity assigned by supervisor and/or WHO Representative.

Qualifications

Educational background

Essential: University degree in medicine or equivalent professional training

Desirable: Master Degree in public health

Experiences and Qualifications

Essential: At least two years' experience in Polio Eradication Initiative (PEI) and Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) activities in Somalia.

Desirable: Working experience with NGOs/UN agencies/ Ministry of Health

Language Skills

Essential: Fluency in local language and a good knowledge of English.

Must be a Somalian national
