Job Description

SOS Children’s Villages invites applications from suitably qualified and interested candidates who fulfill the eligibility criterion for the below one Position.

 

Position Title: Roving Social Worker

Reporting To: Functionally Reports to EIE Project Coordinator; Dotted Line-management to National Protection Coordinator

Location:  Roving South West, Jubbaland and Galmudug     

 

 

Job summary:

The roving social worker is part of the ECHO Education in Emergency team and plays a vital role in providing humancentric social services for crises affected population in all ECHO EIE project target locations; The roving social workers will roll-out  school-based  and  community-based non-clinical MHPSS interventions for crises affected children and parents as well as numerous EIE actions which enhance access to quality basic education services and implement child protection initiatives for school-aged children who have been displaced in rural areas.

The position holders are expected to be mobile throughout this employment period and will be mobile most of the time and will work in support communities and schools in South West state, Jubbaland and Galmudug.

Job responsibilities:

  • Assess children in needs of the child protection services in all targeted schools and initiate the support process through comprehensive case management.
  • Facilitate individualize and groups non-clinical psychosocial support interventions in all the targeted schools and community groups including parental groups.
  • Carry out detailed and comprehensive case management process for children in need of the child protection services in all targeted schools and communities.
  • Conduct schools and community-based risk assessment for crises affected children and communities and develop mitigation measures of the identified risks .
  • Carry out parents’ groups trainings on Child Protection, child rights, Psychological first aid and psychosocial support for children at schools and at home.
  • Carry out teachers training on non-clinical MHPSS including PFA, PSS, Management and supervision of Child friendly activities including outdoor recreational activities.
  • Support the formation of the community-based structures i.e community education committees (CEC) and Community -based Child Protection Welfare committees (CBCPC) in all the targeted community.
  • Coordinate the work of the community structures and train their members of the CEC and CBCPC in all project targeted locations on education in emergency, Child Protection and Child Rights, Positive parenting and positive discipline among many other relevant topics.
  • Supporting Teachers: The social worker assists teachers in establishing supportive groups among the learners and ensures that teachers provide psychosocial support (PSS) services to the learners.
  • Case Identification: The roving social worker is responsible for identifying and assessing cases of children in need of support and protection within the target population. This involves conducting interviews, home visits, and working closely with community members to identify children at risk or in vulnerable situations.
  • Ensure proper referral system is put in place and facilitates appropriate referrals to ensure that children receive the necessary support and services. This may involve collaborating with other professionals, organizations, or service providers, such as healthcare providers, counselors, legal experts, or child protection agencies.
  • Coordination: The roving social worker works closely with relevant stakeholders, including community leaders, local authorities, and service providers, to coordinate and advocate for the provision of appropriate services for the identified cases. This includes coordinating case conferences, multidisciplinary meetings, and ensuring effective communication between all involved parties.
  • Documentation: The roving social worker maintains accurate and detailed case records, documenting all relevant information, assessments, interventions, and referrals made for each case and ensures a comprehensive and organized system for tracking and monitoring the progress and outcomes of the referred cases.
  • Performing any other responsibilities deemed appropriate by the Line Manager    

Experiences and Qualifications

Job Competences /Qualification

 

  • The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in social work, community development, Counselling/Sociology/Mental Health.
  • At least 3-4 years working experience on Child Protection, child rights and MHPSS with reputable partners and services providers. 
  • Proven experience in Case management, Children’s Vulnerability assessment and knowledge of the Vulnerability assessment tools.
  • Demonstrate a strong facilitation skill, knowledge and understanding on adult training approaches and methodologies and able to adapt different training models.
  • Ability to ensure strong community engagement as well as school-based management team and sustain professional working relationship.
  • Experience in building partnerships and working collaboratively with stakeholders.
  • Proven interest in learning and capacity development, of self and others.
  • Proficiency in computer (MS Word, internet, office, excel, power point)
  • Understanding local contexts and dialogues is additional value.
