Title: Project Manager
Location: Hargeisa, Somaliland
Reporting to: Program Manager


Organization Background

Barwaaqo Voluntary Organization (BVO) is a non-political, non-governmental, and non-profit making development action-oriented and advocacy organization that was founded in 1996 by a committed gender-balanced group in Somaliland. BVO strives to perform social development work in Somaliland and has been implementing climate change, environmental protection, and livelihood programs in the country, which enables the finding of solutions to Somaliland’s environmental challenges. BVO fights hunger and promotes poverty reduction, human rights, women's and children's rights, and justice for all.

BVO has also been involved in women's political participation and economic empowerment and provides FGM awareness campaigns as well as implements projects aimed to tackle gender-based violence (GBV) in Somaliland. BVO operates in all six regions of Somaliland.

                              

Purpose of the Position:
The Project Manager at BVO is a crucial role responsible for supervising and supporting the implementation of our projects. Project manager will play a key role in planning, coordinating, and executing project activities while ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards. As a Project Manager, he/she contribute to the overall success of our organization by effectively managing projects and fostering positive relationships with stakeholders.

Project Overview:
The project aims to promote public knowledge of child protection and inclusiveness for children with special needs in Somaliland. By enhancing specialized child protection services and creating a child-friendly environment, we strive to improve the lives of children with special needs and ensure their rights are upheld.

Objective:
To contribute to the strengthened child protection systems of Somaliland by promoting children's rights and access to social services for children with special needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive project plans, clearly defining project goals, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Direct, control, and review project plans to ensure successful implementation.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on-time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Perform risk management analysis to identify and mitigate project risks.
  • Prepare and submit reports to funding agencies, providing accurate project updates and financial information.
  • Manage relationships with clients and stakeholders, fostering effective communication and collaboration.
  • Monitor and evaluate project activities to assess progress and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
  • Safeguard and ensure proper utilization of project equipment.
  • Develop a detailed project plan to track progress and ensure timely completion of milestones.
  • Manage changes in project scope, schedule, and costs, minimizing disruptions and maintaining project objectives.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
  • Adhere to and implement organizational policies and procedures.
  • Monitor project progress, ensuring timely delivery, adherence to scope, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Proactively manage changes to project scope, schedule, and budget using industry-standard verification techniques.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments and implement appropriate mitigation strategies to minimize project risks.

Experiences and Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Project management, Social work, Nutrition, Public health, development studies, or other social sciences studies, a master's degree in a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in project management, preferably in the development or non-profit sector. Experience in managing projects related to child protection, disability inclusion, or social services is an advantage.

 

Skills         

  • Project Management: Proven experience in successfully managing projects from initiation to completion, including project planning, execution, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide project teams towards achieving project goals. Experience in leading and supervising project staff.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders, team members, and funding agencies. Strong presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational and time management skills. Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to identify potential issues, develop practical solutions, and implement effective strategies to overcome project challenges.
  • Risk Management: Proven experience in conducting risk assessments, identifying project risks, and implementing risk mitigation strategies. Ability to anticipate and proactively address potential risks and issues.
  • Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including team members, partners, community organizations, and government agencies. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain positive relationships.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with child protection systems and issues related to children with special needs is highly desirable. Knowledge of relevant laws, policies, and best practices in child protection and inclusiveness.
