Job Description

JOB PURPOSE
This role supports the design and implementation of climate change adaptation and mitigation
related activities. This shall include advocacy and relationship building with stakeholders related
to IMC (International Medical Corps) activities on climate change.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Climate Change Integration:
 Collaborate with program teams to incorporate climate change considerations into the design,
implementation, and monitoring of integrated health, nutrition, WASH (Water, Sanitation and
Hygiene), and protection programs.
 Provide technical support to ensure climate resilience is embedded in program activities,
enhancing the sustainability of outcomes.
Climate Risk Assessment:
 Conduct climate risk assessments to identify potential impacts on program delivery and
community well-being.
 Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks, ensuring programs remain
effective under changing climatic conditions.
Capacity Building:
 Train and support program staff on climate change adaptation, mitigation, and resiliencebuilding
techniques.
 Organize workshops and training sessions for community members to raise awareness of
climate change and promote adaptive behaviors.
Program Development and Proposal Writing:
 Contribute to the development of project proposals, ensuring climate change considerations
are included.
 Identify funding opportunities related to climate change and resilience-building and assist in
preparing grant applications.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
 Develop indicators to monitor the effectiveness of climate change integration within
programs.
 Conduct regular monitoring and evaluation of climate-related program components and
suggest improvements, as necessary.
Advocacy and Partnership:
 Represent International Medical Corps in climate change-related forums and networks.
 Build partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to advocate for
climate-resilient policies and practices.
 Collaborate with local and international partners to enhance program impact and
sustainability.
Reporting and Documentation:
 Prepare detailed reports on climate change integration and its impact on program outcomes.
 Document best practices and lessons learned to inform future programming and policy
development.
Environmental Compliance:
 Ensure that all program activities comply with national and international environmental
standards and guidelines.
 Advise on environmental impact assessments and help implement necessary mitigation
measures.
 Performing other duties as assigned. The duties and responsibilities listed in this document

Experiences and Qualifications

Typically, bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Climate Change, Public Health, or
related field. A master's degree is an added value
 At least 3 years of experience in climate change adaptation and mitigation, particularly in the
context of humanitarian or development programs.
 Experience working with integrated programs involving health, nutrition, WASH, and
protection is highly desirable.
 Strong knowledge of climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies, particularly in lowresource
settings.
 Experience in conducting climate risk assessments and developing resilience-building
strategies.
 Proficiency in project management, including proposal development, budgeting, and
monitoring and evaluation.
 Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
 Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural team.
 Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
 Familiarity with international climate change frameworks and policies.
 Experience in training and capacity-building at community and organizational levels.
 Fluency in English (both written and spoken); knowledge of additional languages is an asset
