Position title: Nutrition Officer
Reporting to: Project Coordinator

Job summary:
The Senior Project Officer will support the managerial and administrative processes led by SOS CV Somalia, in order to ensure compliance with Project donor requirements. Under direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, the nutrition Officer will provide a high standard technical and managerial support to the Emergency response team members to fulfill their duties according to the objectives of the Multi-Sectoral Emergency Response to the humanitarian crisis in SOS SWS.
Job Responsibilities:
Main duties and Responsibilities:
• Coordinate preventative and curative primary health activities including management of communicable, non-communicable diseases and Reproductive Health through hospital, static health facilities and community engagement outreaches.
• Supervise, appraise and identify staff training needs
• Ensure the staff time sheets are accurately filled, reported and submit the staff timesheet every month
• Ensure that all program components maintain humanitarian core standards and principles.
• Coordinate and represent SOS CV SWS in the relevant regional cluster meetings and other forums and liaise with partners in the nutrition and health sectors, i.e., MoH, UNICEF, FSNAU, WHO, and other NGOs (local and international) operating in the project target locations...
• Ensure sensitization of the community on the protection risks and violations, the impact of sexual and gender-based violence, and of the services available to them.
• Support the GBV nurse to give help to the survivors of gender-based violence
• Assist project team in providing technical support to the nutrition and health teams in the implementation of essential nutrition services: Severe acute malnutrition, Moderate acute malnutrition, infant and young child feeding, micronutrient supplementation, community mobilization, and other preventive services.
• Support training of Community Nutrition and Health Workers (CNW/CHW) and other potential partners in key aspects of essential health and nutrition services
• Provide technical guidance for the project team to establish and operate a community mobilization and referral system for nutrition services.
• Strengthen referral systems within and also improve referrals for other services not available within SOS Health & Nutrition Program.
• Facilitate and advocate for a healthy environment to combat micronutrient deficiencies through hygiene promotion, de-worming to control anemia, malaria control to avoid anemia, and vaccination against measles as part of health and nutrition promotion activities.
• Organize training to health care workers and CHWs to improve the quality of primary health care services.
• Complete order forms for the logistics team of material, medicine and food requirements for each site for the week in advance
• Re-define team composition as necessary – either during distributions (to avoid bottle-necks) or after discussion during team meetings
• Developing and implementing nutrition programs aligned with organizational goals and community needs.
• Provide supervision of the nutrition program implementation in the field, Organize and coordinate the team’s work plans.
• Plan and organize OTP/TSFP at designated distribution sites in liaison with project coordinator
• Monitoring and evaluating program effectiveness, identifying areas for improvement and adapting strategies based on data analysis.
• Representing the organization at relevant meetings, conferences, and community events, advocating for the importance of health and nutrition
• Ensure all criteria are respected and understood by the teams, including admission, discharge and transfer to and from the various components of the programme
• Ensure adequate availability of all medical and food supplies for each distribution, input in to creation and maintenance of a monthly distribution plan and ensure stock is pre-positioned as planned with Nutrition Programme Manager and logistics team
• Consolidate and submit high quality monthly, quarterly and annual internal and external reports on time.
• Provide regular updates on the program progress to the Project Coordinator, Health & Nutrition Program Manager and Area manager.
• Participates to meetings and trainings with donor, if required.
• Adhere of all deadlines and requirements related to technical and financial management and manages all processes in time for submission of documentation and delivery of activities.
• Work closely with Project Coordinator, M&E and project teams to ensure that the emergency response project has a robust monitoring plan, baseline, review, and evaluation in line with project design and donor guidelines.
• Assist the location teams in regular monitoring and technical assessments and report on achievement and progress towards project objectives and results
• Together with program team, implement WASH activities in line with the programme proposals and donor requirements and ensure timely production of and submission of programme reports and budget revisions.
• Participate in conducting joint assessments and planning responses together with other team and follow up on the recommendations.
• Provide guidance and training to program staff to ensure that all work is carried out in a way that is sensitive to community needs and gender issues.
• Work closely with field teams on objectives, indicators and activities and develop clear monitoring frameworks for each program in collaboration with the M & E Officers.
• Work closely with MEAL teams to strengthen Complaints, Feedback & Response Mechanisms (CFRM) within the project and implement actions to correct issues identified by beneficiaries that affect program delivery
• Performing any other responsibilities assigned by the Line Manager
Essential
• Minimum relevant Bachelor’s degree in Medicine/Public Health/Nursing/Nutrition with significant relevant experience. Masters in any of the fields of medicine/public health/nursing/nutrition is an added advantage
• At least 3 years’ experience working in conflict/post conflict context, with preferred work experience in Somalia
• Demonstrated experience in gender analysis and women’s empowerment
• Demonstrated experience in program assessments, problem analysis and program design
• Experience with reporting, budgeting, procurement, and project management.
• Team player, who is able to develop strong collaborative relations across the organization, in both the program and program support departments
• Proven capacity of managing programs through partnerships
• Strong gender and conflict analysis skills, and the ability to articulate and design programs using a rights based approach
• Demonstrated ability to motivate and coach field staff
• Ability to work and live under difficult conditions.
• Computer skills (Ms Word, Ms Excel, power point)
