Expression of Interest to act as co-applicants with WHH for an EU project in Somaliland
Background:
Welthungerhilfe (WHH) is looking for co-applicants for an upcoming EU project. WHH has been supporting humanitarian and development projects in Somaliland since 2001, in partnership with local NGOs. WHH is planning to apply for a new three-year project funded by the European Union, starting in autumn 2024, and is looking for co-applicant organizations. Contingent on a positive reply by the donor, WHH will prepare a full proposal for the project in Summer 2024 with the support of the identified local partner organisations. Contingent on a positive reply from the donor for this full proposal, the project would start in October 2024.
Local organisations interested in implementing the project in Somaliland are invited to submit their Expression of Interest along with a proposal for how to achieve the below described outcomes and outputs. Please present the organisation’s experience in the fields of women empowerment, business development, skills development, livelihoods and social stability; a detailed description of the proposed activities and the respective beneficiary numbers as well as a tentative budget according to the realistic capacities of the NGO (containing budget headers for Project activities, Operational costs, Staff, and Other).

Project description:
The aim of the project is to support female members of vulnerable communities in Somaliland to improve their position in the local market.
Outcomes and outputs:
WHH aims to achieve that by improving their access to more profitable markets. This can be achieved through facilitating better access to funds for small investments, establishing complementary partnerships between actors in relevant value chains, new income options for women.
On another level the project aims at more financial stability on HH level through better management of income, and more options to make income.
Especially in rural communities WHH is intending to support women in sustainable processing and marketing of local resources, by producing better quality products, improved marketing strategies, and applying sustainable business plans. At the same time local resources need to be managed in a sustainable way.
Direct target group in Somaliland: at least 10,000 persons

Indirect beneficiaries: at least 50,000 persons
Interested organizations submit their proposal with the subject “Implementation Partner” by the 24th of March 2024 to lennart.lehmann@welthungerhilfe.de. Interested organizations needs to be officially registered as a Non-Profit Organization in Somaliland.
- a detailed description of the proposed activities and the respective beneficiary numbers (2-3 pages) as well as a tentative budget according to the realistic capacities of the NGO (containing budget headers for Project activities, Operational costs, Staff, and Other).
- present the organisation’s experience in the fields of women empowerment, business development, skills development, livelihoods and social stability;
- Mapping out the NGO’s portfolio – How much funding has the NGO handled in the last three years.
- Indicate if the NGO ever had an opportunity to implement EU funding as co-applicants.
- Indicate, if the NGO is registered at the EU PADOR system.
After the deadline, organizations who submitted a proposal will be contacted by WHH to explore the possibility of a cooperation. Please note again that the funding for this project is not yet secured, but depends on the feedback of the donor for the concept note and then also for the proposal.
