Organizational Setting
The key mission of the FAO Representation in Somalia, which is led by FAO Representative (FAOR), is to assist and support the national government to develop policies, strategies and programme aimed at accelerating the Implementation and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the area of FAO's global mandate and Strategic Objectives. More specifically, FAO's response aims to address national needs and priorities in achieving food security, reducing hunger and malnutrition, developing agricultural, fishery and forestry sectors, and ensuring the sustainable use of environmental and natural resources and respond to recurrent emergencies. The current portfolio of activities of the FAO Representation in Somalia includes a wide scope of technical support interventions ranging from policy support through livestock and crop production, to natural resource management, Nutrition, value chain, food security analysis and water and land information management. FAO is also implementing several emergency, resilience-building, and development interventions, with the support of its five field offices and close to 400 staff in partnership with the Federal and State line ministries.
Reporting Lines
The position is under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Somalia, the general supervision of the Head of Information & Systems Management and Digital Innovation and the direct supervision of Strategic Information Management Specialist.
Technical Focus
The incumbent will be responsible to develop and maintain a multi-sector interactive dashboard, requiring the capability to identify, process, analyze, and visualize various types of data, including quantitative, qualitative, and GIS data.
Tasks and responsibilities
• Collaborate with project partners to locate, access, and configure data sources for Power BI extraction.
• Conduct a comprehensive assessment of data quality, dataflow, storage, data security and completeness.
• Organize workshops and consultations with project partners to understand their specific data needs.
• Document project partners requirements carefully, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the project's information needs.
• Identify and define key performance indicators that align with project objectives and that can further trigger to early warning messages.
• Lead the design of the data model and schema, ensuring it accommodates the complex and diverse data sources.
• Determine data transformation and integration processes, ensuring a smooth flow of data from source to dashboard.
• Manage connections to the data sources / database, employing Power Query to support their transformation and integration. This stage also involves data quality checking and rectification.
• Create layout for the Power BI dashboard, providing a visual blueprint of the final product.
• Develop the dashboard's user interface, making it user-friendly and intuitive.
• Integrate and sync data sources effectively, ensuring real-time or semi real-time data updates.
• Implement data visualization components that convey complex information clearly and facilitate decision-making.
• Ensure the accuracy and reliability of data, as well as the overall functionality of the dashboard.
• Support the deployment of the Power BI dashboard to a production environment, ensuring it is accessible to all relevant stakeholders.
• Continuously monitor the performance of the dashboard and actively gather user feedback for improvements.
• Conduct training sessions for partners and stakeholders to familiarize them with the dashboard's features and functionalities.
• Provide continuous support and maintenance for the Power BI dashboard.
• Ensure that the dashboard flawlessly reflects changes in data sources and remains up to date.
• Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
