JOB SUMMARY

·       The Cook/Cleaner will be responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary office and guesthouse environment, as well as providing daily cooking/refreshments services. This position reports directly to the Administrative Assistant in Hargeisa.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Duties and Responsibilities:

Cleaning and Cooking:

·       Perform daily cleaning duties for the office and guesthouse.

·       Prepare and cook daily meals for staff and guesthouse residents.

·       Prepare refreshments for all staff and guesthouse residents twice daily.

Food Preparation and Kitchen Management:

·       Monitor and re-order kitchen supplies as needed to ensure stock levels are maintained.

·       Ensure all cooking utensils and food preparation areas are thoroughly cleaned and sterilized before each use.

·       Verify the freshness of all food and ingredients.

·       Follow all food health and safety regulations.

·       Properly store all food items.

·       Arrange and garnish dishes to ensure an aesthetically pleasing presentation.

·       Demonstrate strong knowledge of both hot and cold food preparation techniques.

·       Handle multiple food orders simultaneously and ensure timely delivery to staff.

·       Manage new orders as they arrive and ensure each guest order is accurate.

·        

Other Duties:

·       Adhere to the Islamic Relief code of conduct and all other organizational policies.

·       Communicate with all staff in a respectful and professional manner, respecting the diversity of the workplace.

·       Maintain focus on work and avoid distractions.

·       Inform your supervisor in advance of any planned absences.

·       Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Working Hours

·       Normal office hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

·       Overtime may be required to meet deadlines or when guests are visiting including on weekends.

Qualifications and Experience

·       Education: Secondary school certificate and a relevant diploma or equivalent qualification are preferred.

·       Work Experience: A minimum of 2 years of professional experience as a Cook/Cleaner.

o   Experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO) setting is considered an asset.

o   Food handling certification is preferred.

o   Familiarity with general kitchen equipment and appliances is required.

o   Strong working knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and safety and sanitation practices are essential.

Language Skills

·       Fluency in reading and writing Somali Language is required.

·       English Language familiarity is an added agvantage

Working Environment:

The position is based in an office/guesthouse with responsibilities including cooking and cleaning. The staff member may occasionally be required to prepare meals for expatriates including on weekends as per organizational needs.
