Child Safeguarding:
Level 3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; ore because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.
ROLE PURPOSE:
Save the Children in Puntland implements various programmes/ projects to support both vulnerable communities in emergencies and in development of Puntland. The Communication and Campaigns Intern will work closely with the ACCM Manager and other team members, playing a vital part in supporting our media, communications, and campaigning efforts to ensure that the promotion and protection of children’s rights is a priority in the Puntland domestic policies.
This is a great opportunity for a creative, digital-savvy graduate who is keen to gain hands-on experience in communications and influencing and further their knowledge by working with a dynamic team through a 6-month paid internship.
SCOPE OF ROLE:

In Puntland, Save the Children started its journey 18 years ago in 2004 to respond to the devastating tsunami that hit the coastal areas of Somalia by helping children and their families receive emergency food supplies and medical assistance. Since then, Save the Children has been active with four area offices in Garowe, Qardho, Bosaso and Galkayo, providing health, nutrition, education (including education in emergencies), WASH, food security and livelihoods, TVET, child protection and child rights governance in development and humanitarian settings.
The long operational history and broad geographical coverage of Save the Children have enabled us to obtain an in-depth understanding of the complexities of the operating environment as well as positive working relationships with key stakeholders. With 161 dedicated staff, across the area office, we respond to major emergencies, deliver development programmes, and ensure children's voices are heard through our campaigning and advocacy to build a better future for and with children.
Staff directly reporting to this post: Area ACCM Manager
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
· Support in the effective delivery of communication and campaigns plans in Puntland
· With the support of the Area ACCM Manager, she assists in development and dissemination of communication content, organize content gathering trips and case study collection in field offices
· Liaise closely with communications, photography/video teams and programme teams to ensure coordination of activities on the ground. This includes ensuring content (photos and videos) are captured, proper consent forms are signed, and that log lists and captions are recorded
· Support in mobilization of children and setting up events, workshops and meetings
· Developing compelling content for social media channels, including written posts, infographics, and videos, to promote the organization's campaigns, initiatives, and events.
· Collaborating with the ACCM team to brainstorm content ideas and create a content calendar.
· Designing visually appealing graphics for various purposes, such as campaign materials, reports, and presentations.
· Assisting in sourcing and editing multimedia content, including photos and videos, for use in promotional materials.
· Ensuring brand consistency and quality in all produced content.
· Other tasks assigned by the line manager
Essential
· Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including the ability to communicate to people of different cultural backgrounds.
· Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.
· Organised, with an ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively while keeping high standards of quality.
· Enthusiastic, proactive, with a 'can do' attitude.
· University Diploma /degree in communications, journalism, PR, political science or human rights.
· Ideally some relevant work experience in communications, campaigns or media, preferably in a non-profit or advocacy setting.
· Knowledge of social media management and graphic design / video editing tools.
· A demonstrable interest in development issues and children's rights.
· Enthusiasm for new and emerging digital trends is an asset.
· Commitment to Save the Children's values and mission.
· Experience and ability to work with teams
· Knowledge and willingness to adhere to SC policies with respect to child protection, health and safety, equal opportunities, gender, fraud and dishonesty policy etc
· Willing and able to travel 30% of the time within Puntland
