VACANCY ANNOCEMENT (Nationals Only)

PYSCHOLOGIST

Duty Station: Las Canood  

Duration of contract: 12 months (with possibility of extension)

Created in 1982, Humanity and Inclusion, operating name, Handicap International (HI) is an independent and impartial international aid organization working in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. Working alongside people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups, our actions are focused on responding to their essential needs, improving their living conditions and promoting respect for their dignity and their fundamental rights. HI was the co-winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997 for its role in the International Campaign to Ban Landmines. 

Humanity and Inclusion (HI) is currently expecting to start implementing an integrated approach to respond to needs to people affected by the Las Canood crisis. Services will be set up in Las Canood hospital and Community Based MHPPSS activities in the surrounding areas. 

RESPONSIBILITY OF THE POSITION 

ROLE OF THE EMPLOYEE

Based in Las Canood, under the line-management of Project Manager and she/he will be responsible to: 

ACTIVITY IMPLEMENTATION (70%)

-          Carry out extensive identification of persons with psychosocial distress and mental health problem together with other PSS staffs (Psychosocial assistance).

-          Provide counselling sessions (individual and group) to identified person with psychological distress.

-          Carry our MHPPS activities within the community mobile team.

-          Develop and implement all relevant technical tools for monitoring, evaluation, activity & communication materials for the MHPSS interventions validated by HQ MHPSS specialist.

-          Mapping of relevant external actors for referral purpose

-          Together with MHPSS technical specialist; carryout capacity needs assessment of community leaders/volunteers/OPDs and facilitate training on Psychosocial First Aid and MHPSS competencies, techniques and tools.

-          Establish and provide regular psychosocial support to peer support groups of persons with specific needs.

ACTIVITY FOLLOW UP (IMPACT MONITORING & EVIDENCE) (20 %)

-          Conduct field supervision visit to evaluate the impact of the HI services (training/coaching/guidelines) received by actors/staff;

-          Collect and produce testimonies, study cases as evidence and material of training;

-          Ensure a proper documentation (pictures, field visit report, and data collection) of each one of the field supervisions visit you are conducting.

 

DOCUMENTATION and REPORTING ( 5 %)

-          Contribute to the production and revision of technical guidelines and materials;

-          Contribute to the development of training materials to be used within PSS component

-          Participate to the monthly situation report by providing relevant data to your line-manager;

-          Support donor reporting and participate in proposal writing when requested by line-manager;

-          Lesson learning: Collect, select and ensure lessons learning processes on PSS related activities and tools

 

REPRESENTATION ( 5%)

-          S/he participates when needed/relevant to the Working Groups and Clusters relative to the field of intervention at local and regional level.

-          Direct coordination with MHPSS actors in bilateral,

-          Ensuring comprehensive approach and coordination with protection and inclusion staffs.

-          Ensuring coordination and coherence of HI intervention amongst local and international actors, avoiding duplication, promoting complementarities and establishing the referral link of mental health and psychological services.

-          Report any relevant information related to Psychosocial matters to relevant stakeholders,

-          Participation in relevant team and technical meetings (clusters, working group) related to your sector of intervention.

 

-          Support and supervised psychosocial assistant in carrying out group psychosocial and recreational activities through mobile safe space.

-          Participating in continuous psychosocial needs assessments for new projects to be developed/adaptation of the existing projects,

-          Providing technical support to the logistics department in your field of expertise, ensuring technical validation of psychosocial related devices.

-          Respect, promote and implement all HI’s Safe Guarding Policies and report to your line manager any non-respect of HI’s policies amongst the teams or partners.

-          Report any incident or act that causes any harm to beneficiary or to others.

-          Always interact with children with the presence of their parents or caregivers.

-          Always respect a refusal of treatment.

Experiences and Qualifications

Education and Competency

-          Bachelor University degree in Psychology or in Social Work

-          At least 3 years of field experience in providing direct psychosocial services (identification, assessment, diagnosis and counselling/therapy session) to persons with psychological distress in emergency context

-          Experience of training and technical supervision of psychosocial workers

-          Strong communication and reporting skills,

-          Strong organizational skills,

-          Ability to work under high pressure,

-          English mandatory (oral and written),

 

Conditions

-          Status: Service contract with salary according to experience

-          Start: October 2024 (subject to funding)

-          Duration: 1 year (possible extension)
