Job Position: Protection officer intern

Type of Contract: internship

Duration: 7 months

Reporting to: Protection project Manager

Duty Station: Mogadishu

1.      Organizational context

The Humanitarian Umbrella for Relief and Development Organization (HURDO Somalia) was founded in 2014 with a commitment to providing humanitarian assistance and sustainable development programs in Somalia. 2.   About the role

The selected candidate will be responsible primarily for implementation of Protection programming in Mogadishu/Banadir with a specific focus on GBV prevention and response activities. Project activities include the establishment and support of Community-Based Protection Networks with a focus on GBV and Child Protection, awareness-raising sessions and community dialogues, static and mobile protection desks, protection monitoring, as well as safe identification, referral, and provision of individual protection assistance to individuals and households confronting protection risks and/or recovering from protection violations.

Main Responsibilities of the Protection officer intern

 

1.      Support Protection teams in community engagement.

 

•       patriciate on the establishment, training, ongoing engagement, and support of Community-Based Protection Networks focused on GBV prevention and response and Child Protection.

•       Identify safely and refer individuals and households with multi-sectoral needs and ensure proper follow-up Analyze and support individual and households in need of individual protection assistance in adherence with HURDO’s IPA Guidelines

•       Support capacity building and coordination of activities in settlements, including delivering training sessions to community structures, women’s groups, and other duty bearers on key protection topics

2.      Support Protection teams by actively highlighting contextual changes.

•       Facilitating safe and timely protection awareness-raising sessions through home visits, group discussions and public gatherings.

•       By following up on rumors, speculations, or other informal communication methods used to share information within communities or locations.

3.      Support Protection teams in identifying individuals in need.

•       Practicing safe referral practices to refer individuals included in HURDO Baidoa Protection Risk and Vulnerability criteria to the Protection teams.

•       Practicing safe referral practices to refer individuals requiring specialized support to the Referral Officer.

•       Collaborating with other community volunteers, such as community health volunteers and village committees, and facilitating distributions when needed.

4.      Support Protection Information Dissemination activities by highlighting specific legal needs of individuals, and trends or practices to guide outreach messaging.

•       Including support in conducting outreach sessions, and as possible conducting them independently based on request and need.

•       Disseminating Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials in local languages, and ensuring they are easily accessible to women and girls

•       Develop strong relationships with individuals and groups within the community, foster trust and open communication channels and observe and report any potential threats, hazards, or safety concerns within the community, such as crime, domestic violence, or safety infractions.

5.      Support the design and delivery of awareness-raising sessions and community dialogues.

6.      Assist the Protection team to prepare and submit data to the Protection Project Implementation Tracker,5W Reporting, and donor reports.

7.      Ensure adherence to Protection Information Management principles and data protection protocols, including the safe storage of means of verification

8.      Develop weekly and quarterly work plans in coordination with the Protection Team Leader

9.      Ensure the regular and accurate uploading of protection data and means of verification

10.  Ensure compliance with best practices and standards for protection programming

11.  Any other duty assigned by the line Manager

Experiences and Qualifications

3.      Main Requirements:

•       Bachelor’s degree in social work, international development, human rights, law, psychology, public health, gender studies, or a related field.

•       Training certificate in Protection/Child Protection and GBV

•       Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines

•       Stable and robust character and a good team-player

•       Excellent communication skills, calm and a good sense of humor

•       Proven commitment to accountability practices.

•       Fluent in written and spoken English and Somali
