BACKGROUND

Lifeline-Gedo (LLG) is a Humanitarian, Non-profit and non-governmental organization dedicated to responding to humanitarian emergences through provision of life-saving support mechanisms in partnership with national and international role players, promoting peace and stability, advocate against all kinds of violence, initiate long term and short-term development projects. LLG prioritizes to identify the most appropriate targets for their projects where the poorest communities are suffering most.

  1. POSITION INFORMATION

Position Title:  Health and Nutrition Officer.

Duty Station:  Bardere, Gedo, Somalia

Organizational Unit:  Programmes

Reporting Directly To:  Health and Nutrition Coordinator. 

Overall Supervision By: Programs Manager.

Remuneration:  Negotiable

Managerial Responsibility: None.

Duration: 11 months with possibility of extension.

Directly Reporting Staff:  Nurses, midwives, nutritionists and other health cadres.

  1. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE

For increasing access to Health and Nutrition, Lifeline Gedo works in urban and remote villages in Gedo region through the provision of health and Nutrition services that include treatment of SAM, MAM, essential maternal and child health services in Partnership with Medair and technical support from the MoH of Jubaland state of Somalia.  

Job Summary:

Health and nutrition Officer, under the direct supervision of the health and nutrition project coordinator and closely working with Health facility in charge and mobile team supervisors, will be responsible for Project implementation reporting and supervision as per the LLG and donor requirements. The officer is also responsible for the quality and the consistency of all data submitted by the health facilities. He/she will be responsible in collecting, compiling and analysing weekly and monthly health and nutrition data and submitting it to the coordinator, donor partners, MOH and other platforms such as ONA. He/she will Closely follow up and ensure up-to-date activities are implemented with community members that will lead to the prevention of malnutrition and child stunting particularly especially health, IYCF-E and community awareness promotion and protection activities.  

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Program Implementation and Development

  • Provide technical oversight and support to all health and nutrition activities at the mobile outreach sites and fixed health facilities in line with national and international guidelines.
  • Guide and support Mobile Clinic teams in project implementation, in collaboration with IYCF-E focal person and Community health supervisor.
  • Train and mentor Community Health Workers (CHWs) and Lifeline Gedo staff on health and nutrition best practices.
  • Deliver on-the-job training and regular mentorship to health workers at health facilities and mobile clinics.
  •  Participate in organizing relevant training for the clinical, nutrition and community health staff.
  • Ensure implementation of community-based activities focused on preventing malnutrition and child stunting, with a particular emphasis on IYCF-E and community awareness.
  • Facilitate the implementation of iCCM (Integrated Community Case Management) and protection activities.
  • Train CHWs to conduct community-level behavior change and communication activities.
  • Collaborate with donor partners technical teams on key areas including health, CMAM, IYCF-E, data quality, and stock reports.
  • Assist in planning and delivering messages to the community on world thematic days.
  • Support establishment and coordination of a referral system for nutrition and reproductive cases requiring specialised care with other partners working in the area

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of weekly and monthly HMIS data from all supported health facilities and mobile clinics.
  • Provide technical support for HMIS and ONA monthly reporting.
  • Assist the health and nutrition technical team in compiling and submitting monthly narrative reports.
  • Conduct regular visits to health facilities and mobile outreach sites, providing detailed reports with findings, action points, and recommendations.
  • Conduct additional assessments and beneficiary interviews to stay updated on community feedback, changing needs, and opinions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of reports.
  • Participate in surveys and assessments as requested by Lifeline Gedo or external stakeholders.
  • Ongoing monitoring of changes in emergency needs in active outreach sites and feedback to the project coordinator for action.

Coordination

  • Support the Health and Nutrition Project Coordinator in following up on health and nutrition activities implementation.
  • Provide technical support to supervisory health staff to ensure a health and nutrition-focused approach across program interventions.
  • Work with program teams to promote collaboration with other sectors for a complementary approach to health service delivery.
  • Ensure adequate representation at IYCF-E coordination meetings.
  • Represent Lifeline Gedo in district and regional health and nutrition coordination meetings.
  • Work closely with district-level health authorities and participate in joint supportive supervision with DHMTs (District Health Management Teams) to both health facilities and Mobile Clinics.

Other Responsibilities

  • Maintain information flow between the Health and Nutrition Project Coordinator and other stakeholders.
  • Be willing to accept and perform any other duties as required during the implementation of the program.
  • Identify opportunities to improve or adapt the program and advise the Health and Nutrition Project Coordinator.
  • Actively participate in emergency response efforts when required, contributing to achieving the humanitarian objectives of Lifeline Gedo.

Experiences and Qualifications

Education

ü  Bachelor’s degree in medicine, Public Health, Nursing, Nutrition or a related subject.

Experience and Skills

Essential:

ü  At least three years’ experience of health & nutrition-related humanitarian/development program implementation

ü  Experience in training and supervision of health workers

ü  Knowledge of the National polices such as EPHS, CMAM and IYCF

ü  Experience of working in complex, insecure environment

ü  High level of spoken and written English

ü  Experience in on-the-job mentorship and training

ü  Computer Skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint

Other Skills

ü  Good interpersonal and communication skills

ü  Ability and willingness to interact successfully and respectfully with people at all levels and from all backgrounds.

ü  Ability to work under pressure and without constant supervision.
