SOS Children’s Villages International is the umbrella organization to which all SOS Children’s Villages including SOS Children’s Villages Somalia Association is affiliated. SOS Children’s Villages Somalia has officially been working in Somalia since 1985. SOS is currently working in 134 countries worldwide. We are committed to the welfare of children – often throughout the whole of their childhood, and to strengthening families and communities as a preventive measure in the fight against abandonment and social neglect. We also run education and health facilities. With the SOS Children’s Village concept, the organization pioneered a family approach to the long-term care of orphaned and abandoned children. Banadir Region (Heliwa, Wadajir, Dharkenley and Dayninle districts) southwest-state (Baidoa, Burhakaba, Berdale,Baraawe, El Barde,Qansaxdheere, Diinssor and Hudur) and Hirshabelle State (Jowhar, Adale & Balcad).

Position                                 : GBV Social Worker

Location                               : Jowhar -Hirshabelle State-Somalia

Responsible to                     : GBV Officer

 

 

Job Summary:

 

 

The GBV Social worker will be responsible for all GBV case management component of the activities; GBV Social workers will support the successful implementation of all Response, psychosocial activities, and will be responsible for the provision of quality psychosocial first Aid, case management including direct counseling to GBV survivors. In collaboration with the Project officer and Project Coordinator. The GBV Social workers will support in the provision of training and supervising GBV Community Workers to respond to cases of GBV in the camp and ensure effective case management. This includes providing ongoing training and mentorship for community workers and utilizing monitoring and evaluation systems to ensure high quality.

 

 

Key Area of responsibility:

 

·         Supervise and provide training, mentorship, and other technical support to community workers directly involved with the psychosocial component of the GBV project.

·         Provide leadership and guidance regarding psychosocial activities to all community workers to ensure all programme activities meet best practice standards.

·         Monitor and supervise case management, including capacity building through training and on-the-job training of community workers. Training topics should include active listening and effective communication, action and safety planning, GBV guiding principles, GBV basic concepts, and other related topics.

·         Provide professional and confidential services to survivors of GBV, grounded in the SOS CV holistic, survivor-centered case management approach.

·         Document client information through accurate filling of intake forms and ensure confidential and safe storage

 

·         Support the maintenance of the case management system by maintaining client confidentiality.

·         Ethically and confidentially collect and store GBV data. Participate in interpretation of the data analyzed on trends and work with the GBV Officer and psychosocial counsellor to disseminate information to all relevant stakeholders.

·         Participate in the development of case management monitoring systems and help to ensure that GBV community workers utilize these systems correctly and consistently.

 

·         Participate in preparation of all relevant reports regarding the psychosocial support activities.

·         Strengthen and maintain networks with community leaders, women leaders, service providers and camp management to ensure that survivors receive compassionate support from the community and to encourage greater communication, collaboration and coordination among partners.

 

·         Monitor daily and weekly community outreach plan with community workers, based on case trends and ongoing needs of women and girls.

·         Fulfill any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Experiences and Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, Gender Studies, Public/Community Health or related field from a recognized institution.

·         Minimum 2 years work experience in GBV, child protection or social work with a demonstrated focus on GBV program design and implementation

·         Good understanding and experience of working in Middle Shabelle, especially Jowhar, is a definite advantage.

·         Verbal fluency in English and Somali language.

·         Knowledge of community-based child/GBV protection approaches, preferably including experience in participatory approaches and child participation methodologies.

·         Basic familiarity with MS application packages (Word, Excel and database software) and willingness to develop further.

·         Sound knowledge of gender issues in humanitarian settings, particularly GBV, including relevant international human rights, principles and established international standards (i.e: CPIMS, GBVIMS, etc.).
