Job Description:

Communications Officer

 

The Role Summary:

The Communications Officer will work closely with the Senior Communications Manager, with a matrix reporting to the WVI Senior Content Manager in ensuring that the Nexus Accelerator Fund (NAF) project’s visibility is strengthened both internally, to the donor and other key stakeholders such as government, peer organizations, partners & communities. The role will strengthen the positioning of World Vision as a trusted partner of choice. The role will further ensure that the NAF project is amplified through the different social and digital platforms and that the right communications and marketing resources are sought, developed and distributed to the relevant audiences.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Content production for internal and external engagement: photography, stories, video and multimedia content.

  • In close collaboration with the Senior Communications Manager, specialist and the overall manager of the program/project; the Communications Officer will support the gathering evidence of impact of the NAF project producing high-quality content such as video, photos, and also written stories to be used for marketing, media, advocacy and fundraising as well as donor engagement.
  • Support the production of high-quality and compelling content for use in donor reports, presentations, fact sheets and other knowledge and communications products targeted to the donor and other key stakeholders
  • Support the production of the project’s brief/profile and ensure its updated regularly .

 

Brand management and project visibility

  • Support in monitoring and tracking online, traditional and other platforms and report any reputational risk related issues to Senior Communications Manager
  • In collaboration with the Communications Specialist and Manager, support the project team in developing a communications plan, mapping out key communications, branding and visibility activities for the lifecycle of the project – including guide and support in the implementation of donor branding and visibility guidelines they are adhered to.
  • Ensure the donor and World Vision’s reputation is promoted and protected through effectively managed internal and external communications

 

Internal communications

  • Support the communications specialist in coordinating/ organizing of the project’s external engagement events in particular regarding the production of branding, visibility and public engagement materials.
  • Support the implementation of World Vision’s and the Donor’s brand and visibility guidelines are followed and aligned in all communications.
  • Day-to-day submission of content for World Vision Somalia’s social media and digital platforms.
  • Providing ongoing support to grants team for donor reports, proposals and concept notes writing

Experiences and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Media, Film/TV production, Creative Media Production or related fields
  • Diploma in Graphic Arts or Multimedia production/web design from a recognized institution (desirable)
  • 3-5 years or more of professional experience in media and communications in a multi-cultural, child-focused, non-profit/humanitarian organization/context
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, video editing applications such as Final Cut Pro and Adobe Suite applications (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier Pro, Adobe InDesign and Illustrator)
  • Provide any relevant samples or links to content such as own-produced video, photos or showreel
  • Must be fluent in both English and Somali languages (written and verbal)
  • A passionate storyteller with strong video taking and photography skills
  • Must have the ability to shoot and edit video content
  • Digital photography, video documentary production/mastery of video production process
  • Good writing skills and experience in script writing and production strong advantage
  • Proven document design skills, including the design of infographics
  • Demonstrates creativity and innovation including in the use of latest digital communications equipment
  • Experience creating multimedia content for digital, social media platforms
  • Ability to use audio, photography and video equipment to produce compelling storytelling
  • Ability to do selfie videos or doing reporter/vlog style videos is a strong advantage because most of the assignment will require this skill set and capability
  • Knowledge and understanding of the different social media platforms i.e., Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube- and their video formats
  • Experience in media, humanitarian and advocacy communications
  • Website and social media management experience

 

Working Environment

  • Office-based either in Luuq, Jubaland State, or Hudur, South West State with domestic travel based on need from time to time.
